Black Trillium.
Even though it's not really all that fantastic, Mutineer's Moon will always be a favourite too.

Mutineer's moon is pretty awesome. Sometimes I like to imagine that the moon really is some kind of benign death star :P

Have you read Weber's Honor Harrington series by chance? I was wondering if it's worth checking out.

Yeah I think I've read 4 or 5 of them. My brother/mom really like them, but there are just so many of them I got fatigued with the series (around the 4th or 5th book a big story arc gets finished up which I felt was a good stopping point for me). At the very least I would recommend the first one, "On Basilisk Station". It's just some really good military SF and does a pretty good job of introducing Honor and the various factions involved in the main plotlines.
Another good David Weber book is "In Fury Born"
