Simpleplanes is still going strong, with new updates both serious and goofy - which I guess is a pretty good way to think of the game itself, as serious and goofy. I've been allergic to anything that reminds me too much of a flight simulator ever since a college roommate put hours, days, weeks into one of the ancient flight simulators back in the day; it put me right off them. This one does look fun, but I'm still wary of it.
