Where does one find out about news like this? For example when Left 4 Dead 2 or Payday The Heist went free for anyone who downloaded, I only learned about it due to chance. Is there a site dedicated to this or a way to filter Steam news and only aim at this kind of deals?

I happened to see this on a news site I check frequently but there is also a Steam group that announced free games and giveaways.

Join the group and check your Steam activity feed every day and you will see when they announce free stuff.
