Description

Hi,

I've posted similar promotions before, so I'm trying something different this time.

I'd really appreciate it if you check out my electronic/bass/dance EP that I recently released. After a lot of work, I'm pretty proud of it.

I could see some of the music in a hotline miami-esk game. Since it doesnt really have highlights during the song its great for music during levels and just as background music.
I'd make the beeping at the beginning of in The Depth (and ending of the first track) less annoying though, its kind of a pain to listen to, everything else is fine with it. I get it, the ship sinks, but still.
Hope you dont take the critizism the wrong way and thank you so much for the GA. Keep producing!

I honestly appreciate the criticism. In hindsight, I wish I had made the first track shorter (and may even remake it) - your feedback aligns exactly with what the Bandcamp stats are. People aren't listening to very much of the album if they start with the first track.

I was going for something more cinematic like Joker - Mainframe or Michna - Thousand Thursday, but I think I made the interludes too long.

Anyway, thank you again for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

I'd say that your biggest problem is that there is no real melody to your songs.
The Ship Sinks - There is just a constant unchanging arpeggio going throughout the entire song. Have it raise or lower a step or two and then you can come back down to the original note, it would make the song a lot more dynamic and interesting. The melody suffers from the same problem, the exact same repeated notes over and over. Think about Pachelbel's Cannon in D, it repeats the same theme throughout the whole piece but keeps on offering variations to make it interesting. You start to do this at the end when the bass is introduced, but then the song just ends.
The Pressure - The call and response with the bass and treble is really nice. Good use of pauses to break up the tempo
Basically all the same for the rest, you can keep it simple, just don't keep it repetitive

Thank you for the feedback/analysis! I mentioned it in the comment above, but in the future I'll either remove the interludes or make them a lot shorter. Based on the Bandcamp statistics, people seem to either skip those or outright stop listening. I haven't heard of Pachelbel's Cannon in D (which probably shows in my lack of music theory understanding), but I'll check it out. Thanks again!

'Ending' - Change up the melody more. It appears to be just the F Major scale played up and down with some low reverberating sound in the background. Sounds clash too much (if dissonance is the desired effect, it should be re-adjusted).

'Two Fathoms' - Replace the drum tapping with kind of bassy synth. They're too interruptive as-is. Maybe the same with the claps, or you could do something else with them. They're just disruptive to the whole flow of the song. Also, maybe add more complexity to or tighten the harmony/beat to increase the sense of tension.

The best song is 'After'. but it could be improved by added more variety to either the melody or harmony. The melody drones on too long as-is, and loses the effect on the ambience/mood that the solid introduction provided. I would have liked to have seen a more aggressive development throughout the track.

Biggest thing I noticed was using generic/preset sounds in some songs and droning with basic chord scales. A lot of the songs with pianos/synths (top half of the track list) can be improved with different chord/scale progressions and/or subtlety in your playing. Consider looking at a resource like http://www.musictheory.net/lessons . Study more about the chord scales, and apply it to your works so they have more dynamism.

Your use of samples is good. Beyond chord variety, I think if you continue working on your ambient tones and harmonies, you could produce some tense tracks. You can be more aggressive with the melodic development in your music, and I think you should be.

I sincerely appreciate that you took the time to write this out. As I'm sure you can tell, music theory isn't something I went to school for. Almost all of my music knowledge is self-taught. I actually got into production because I liked the computer side of things first.

Anyway, in my professional job, it is important to give people specific things to improve when evaluating them, which is exactly what you did. I really appreciate it and I'll make sure to incorporate that into my future works. Thanks!
