I only beat it recently, but I really enjoyed Sutte Hakkun. Even if you're unsure about a 1997-98 game counting as "old school," it's approach to puzzle design certainly isn't used in most modern, high profile puzzle games. Rather than being a Zelda-esque switch hunt or based on arbitrary riddle-esque mechanics that never build on each other (e.g. point and click adventure puzzles), this game teaches you exactly what every item does and exactly how they can be used. Also, unlike other puzzle games that do this, the game never introduces anything new after the first 1/3rd of the game, instead exclusively using level design to create challenge. In other words, if you're stuck on a puzzle, there's no way that it's not your fault; you can see the whole level and you know how everything works with each other. But the best part: it actually manages to create a solid difficulty curve and make some consistently difficult puzzles using this formula, unlike other similar puzzle games that get boring and repetitive due to lack of variety.
It honestly might be my favorite game of all time.

Streets of Rage 1 - 3, i grew up with alot of Sega Genesis games as a wee little kid in the mid or late 90s to early 00s, but those 3 games right there were the best of that sacred time, they brought the best of times, with family members in co-op. Super Mutant Ninja Turtles The Hyperstone Heist will get a honorable mention, as will Adventures of Batman and Robin, Dune The Battle For Arrakis, Sunset Riders, Jurrasic Park trillogy and so much more.

When I got a Gameboy Advanced SP it came with Super Mario Bros. 2 GBA version. It was my first Mario game and I really had a lot of fun 100% the whole game back then.

Planescape Torment. A wacky talking skull as a companion as well as the dialogue it gives just cracks me up when I first started playing it.

Old school? Probably Pegasus console. If you didn't heard about it, it's because it was bootleg mix of NES/SNES with some weird new features. It had Contra and Mario though, along with some really weird (and untranslated) Japanese games. When you played it, half of the time you had no idea what is going on. I remember really liking TMNT series on it, long, pretty good graphics, and entirely translated...
