Hidden gem, hidden gem... Redneck Rampage, an old game made with the same engine as Duke Nukem (the same Build Engine modifications, but a bit better). You can buy it on GOG, includes the two Redneck Rampage games and an expansion pack for the first one (it have cooperative multiplayer too, but never tried it).
Not sure if that's a "hidden gem", but that's pretty good and funny (your best weapon is a chicken tied to a dynamite on a crossbow, acts like a homing missile). The in-game music is funny too, by the way.
