may I ask why you blacklist people who thank for the giveaway before they win? Since the website rules seem to encourage that. If I had to take a guess it's because of the AutoJoin bots? thank you if you reply

I let OP answer with his perspective, but I also don't like generic "thank you" messages, they just feel like spam (opposite for writing after winning) also I don't blacklist for it, yet at my anniversary I threatened to, only just to keep them off my messages
:)

Yes, I am fairly new here and I can see how they might look like spam (they all look the same for every GA). When I comment with 'thank you' in some giveaways I try to keep it different every time by adding the name of the hoster for example, would that still look like spam? Thank you for your perspective :)

I understand your effort to personalize your thanks, but I would still argue it still seem spammy to send a thank you before winning a GA. In this GA in particular, imagine if everyone did that - OP would have 763 (at the time of this message) thank you messages. Even if he had something of importance in the middle of it all, it would be impossible to find it
My two cents

Fair enough, I guess. I thought thanking for the opportunity would be appropriate, but if that's the case I won't send them unless OP specifies it doesn't bother them in the description.

I also sometimes thank, but usually when it's quite rare and/or expansive giveaway :D

Yeah, it doesn't mean you can't ever thank them before winning, but when in doubt I would lean against doing so. I believe no one in the community would accuse you of being unkind in that case, it's quite the norm.
I'd say I end up thanking before winning once every two weeks or so. Usually when it's a whitelisted GA for an expensive game, or when the gifter writes something funny in the description 😂

and to consider that quite average count, also when you have multiple giveaways running (when we talk about literal trains) - those things would sum up pretty fast :P

Yeah, something else to keep in mind is that some people use bots to automatically enter giveaways and post a thank you, so by mentioning the blacklist in the description, the only people leaving thanks here are gonna be bots (that you would want blacklisted anyway), and people that didn't bother to read it. For example, the guy below that commented a generic thank you, I already had blacklisted, probably because they entered a bunch of my giveaways with the exact same message each time

it's like fernandopa said - to limit spam.
you can thank me when you win, no need to fill my inbox with generic thank you spam. if you can come up with more than a generic message, it is fine. like asking questions, or commenting on game etc.
also, if, like for now, i have 1 GA open, than it could be ok to allow thanks but imagine more open GAs. if i do an event with 10 or 50 giveaways and someone asks me a question or something similar in forum thread or any giveaway, how would i know? not like there are good filters and stuff for messages here
