FTL is a very popular game, there's actually a lot of titles that draw inspiration from it. Holy Potatoes Space, Convoy, etc. I've seen at least four games similar too it. Some are really good too.

Hi, given key named as "for Beta Testing". It looks suspiciously, so I'll wait until release before marking as received.

It just says that when you activate it, I guarantee it is a a full retail copy. If you wish I can give a screenshot from the developer saying it is. Furthermore, if you look in your library for the game, it does not say beta testing. If you're still worried, go to the Steam Store page; not only will it say it is already in your library, but if you add it to your cart, then got to the shopping cart, it will say you already own it. It does not allow you to buy the retail version, because you already own the retail version.
