That's not too surprising, as with long projects it's not too uncommon for things to change over time from the original idea. Considering the massive number of backers, and the insane amount of money they provided, it sounds like things could get really messy even before the game is released.

One basic problem I see with this trend is the creative people behind various big games are now trying to do things without business people involved. Problem is the business people were important in the success of those games too, but many players are so anxious to give all the credit to the creative people that when they go it alone, they think only good things can come of it. Although those creative people being used to working in a team, with business people handling all the business aspects just aren't used to dealing with such things, so can prove to be rather bad at managing money, PR, and sticking to deadlines.
