The sequel explains the events of the first game pretty well, and it's far better in every aspect, I'd advise you to start with it, or start with the first game to improve your experience further on! I personally have a habit of starting with the very first game in the series all the time. For Example I've wanted to complete Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, and still hasn't made it because I'm eagerly pushing through the older titles. No regrets here, they're golden

Yeah, people told me to do just that, but I've started with the beginning. They expand the story a lot, so if you liked those two, consider playing the older games as well, you won't be disappointed
