Thank you everyone who has contributed to the train so far, and thank you to FiddlerOnTheWeb for setting up this train this year, and thank you to all who have set up these community trains in the past.
I have to admit, I got Starfield myself on release, but I am quite enjoying it!
Some stuff feels dated, and sometimes the game has moments which do feel like skyrim with a new coat of paint. But the depth and world building is quite well done. So I've gotten lost in going around and doing my own thing, rather than following the main story. So I hope someone else can enjoy the game as much as I have been!
Enjoy, and best of luck!

Oh this is crazy. Awfully nice of you OP. even if not my kind of game.

It's a lot like skyrim or fallout gameplay wise, but it has some scents of games like No man's sky, and elite dangerous mixed in.
Thanks for the kind words though <3

Thanks for the giveaway! I didn't expect to see a giveaway for a recent AAA game!
I won't enter, though, because my computer doesn't have enough space for this one. ;(
Comment has been collapsed.
Feel free to enter if you think you would enjoy playing it at some point in the future!
Also as a little note from myself: I know the store page says SSD required but that doesn't seem to be the case, the game works fine off a hard drive, just increased loading times.
In terms of size I can double check when I am next on my PC but I think it is about 120gb disk usage IIRC.

Am I the only who's not excited about this game at all?
Comment has been collapsed.
I honestly wasn't... But when it got closer to release I kind of felt like I wanted to explore a world like Skyrim or Fallout, but a fresh one with new lore and stories.
So far I'm not disappointed in that regard. The main story does just feel 'tacked on', and is just shoved in your face with no understandable motivation or agenda for the main player character. But the world building, side-quests, and just little side-stories you can stumble upon are actually quite well done, as well as the effects they have on the rest of the world around you. In my 18 hours or so logged, I've actually only done the first 2 main story quests, with one of those being the intro/ tutorial one. I just haven't had motivation to do the main story, it hasn't hooked me yet. But going around and doing your own thing, discovering little side quests and stories has been great fun.
From a technical standpoint, it runs alright, but it does feel dated in some regards. Moving between areas has the classic Bethesda fade to black loading screen. Some of the mechanics are just straight up the same as Skyrim from 12 years ago. So any mention Bethesda makes about 'pushing new limits' is kind of just fluff.
Regardless of that though, the world building and side-stuff is really quite well done, as I guess is to be expected from a Bethesda game.
So If you've played and enjoyed Skyrim or Fallout, I can recommend this. Otherwise if you're not a fan of those games, this is just that, but with a new coat of paint, story and lore.

Exactly my point. Why do people get so excited about another game like all the others?
Is there such a word to describe people who just automatically fangirl about anything new from a certain dev/pub?
I won't enter, as I already have a major backlog of "too-long-to-play-rpgs-that-I'll-never-get-around-to-playing", and it may as well go to someone who (hopefully) will play it.

Sorry I think I didn't convey my thoughts well;
I don't mean specifically a game from Bethesda, I just used those examples as they have a vast open, intricate (in some regards) world to explore and just experience. Similar to something like the STALKER games, or in some regards something like Divinity or Baldur's gate.
Just a vast, open world, where you kind of pick your own adventure, and just 'experience' it. I personally do spend a lot of time reading the little collectibles and notes, and just sort of soaking in the world and details. The Bethesda games have always been quite good with adding that intricate detail, even sometimes in places a vast majority of players would just skip over.
I have 149 hours on Skyrim, all on a single save, I've never made a second character. And I haven't even gone through and seen everything there is to see. That is why I compare Starfield to that, I just felt like taking in all the details, but in a fresh, new world.
The 'excitement' comes from the possibility of a huge, vast open world to explore, which has different, new stories. A different setting, and overall just a new 'universse'. Bethesda is known for it's world building, and little details (which is why Skyrim and Fallout spring to mind).
I do completely get that isn't for everyone, but I personally like the little details that might be meaningless on a larger scale, not just the main story.

Ok, maybe the fan-girling was just about anything new.
Yes, I'm the minority when it comes to rpgs specifically.
I'll shut up now.

thats the thing.
i went into Starfield expecting another Bethesda gameβ’ .
and i got exactly that. so its ben nothing but fun.

Good for you. Just proving my point.

Raises hand.
Overhyped """AAA""" releases aren't really my thing either when, even if it's a franchise I'm interested in (which this one isn't since it's a "new" thing by Bugthesda), I'm unlikely to touch them withing the upcoming 5-10 years. Thanks to the almighty backlog, nowadays a game needs to pretty much immediately catch my attention with cuteness, humour, awesome gameplay or some big unique formula twist thing... none of which Bland Standard Open World Game #753 appears to offer.
Well, at least the Zero Punctuation video of it is expectedly funny.
(I wanted to say this 5 days ago but I kinda just... forgot. Like with Starfield in general- I keep forgetting about it until someone brings it up again. ^_^' )

I own the game. Wish I didn't spend $83 on it. I instead wish I saved that money to upgrade my PC. Which I should have because I was so close to my targeted budget, and this game dips into 25fps for me in New Atlantis in some places (I have above recommended specs). This is a great giveaway. I am sure the game is great for those that can run it without problems. I would not pay for it. This is your best bet at the moment. I have whitelisted you Alpha, because you are being very generous here. Good luck to everyone who entered! I hope you win and enjoy the game!
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks! <3
Maybe it will run better when you get that PC upgrade?
I personally caved and got it for myself, and I'm having quite a bit of fun with it. Main story wise I haven't done much more than the second mission, as it didn't really hook me. I've mainly just been doing random stuff around the place, which has been great.
It really does kind of remind me of skyrim, or really any other Bethesda RPG, with a fairly extensive, new world and lore to explore.
It is a shame that it isn't well optimised, unfortunately it seems a lot of new releases seem to be half-baked in that regard. The only real game that I remember being optimised in recent years is Outlast Trials, which is great fun, and is honestly a very polished game for an early access release, especially with what the rest of the industry seems to be going towards...
