if you're not from USA this is pretty mandatory. one of the most powerful chilling tool available on Steam, also an awesome share for this train.
and yes, a nice truck-driving game too :D

Even if you are from USA (like me) this is an awesome game. :)

100% agreed.
but your USA-eyes (!!) are already trained to look at big spaces. as most, got both EST 2 and this: first one gives me the sense of "duty, work" which this doesn't give. is only chilling looking, and i'm always on the roof, en plein air, forgetting routes, kilometers and such.
hey, but now i'm eager to know if you feel differences between those two. :P

Excuse me, dioes this game truly shows America through the eyes of a trucker?
P.S.: I played ETS 1,2 a lot

it all depends if you're doing like a truck or not :P
btw, old trailer, still good

Not sure I understood correctly. I'm not truck driver, but like to play same half-games half-simulators and I follow some youtube channels of truckers.
Agreed about trailer

sorry, then. i thought your comment had some irony :D
the answer is Yes, definitely
(truly another experience for me, played ETS, loved but this one is another "thing". still my opinion, tho)

There are definitely differences!
In ETS2, there are more small roads, you don't always have to take the major highways. There are also more diverse landscapes -- almost everything in ATS is desert because it's representing the southwest USA.
In ATS, there is more open space and you almost always have to take the major highways to get anywhere. (This is realistic; big trucks usually take major highways in the USA).
And of course, since ATS is a newer game, there is a little bit more detail in the graphics (cities, vehicles, landscape, etc).
I still love ETS2 a little bit more because I've been playing it for so much longer, but they are doing a great job with ATS.

I love the "grittiness" of the towns. They look real, not "picture perfect like ETS2. My main quibble is the rarity and shortness of the trains. IRL trains are 100 cars long, not 6. Also, we often have shoulders on the left side of a multi-lane divided highway (the inside for those from places where people drive on the left side).

To further support that: According to various Google'd articles, trains these days mostly run between 130 and 200 cars, with 160 as the average; Given that, 100'd be more of a bare minimum if the game is aiming for authenticity. 6 is.. ah.. somewhat understated, perhaps. :P
Well, from a general gamer perspective, not having to wait at train tracks for an hour in a game would actually be the ideal design; Off that, the 6 car design makes complete sense. However, isn't the merit of this kind of game entirely based in its level of authenticity? I mean, as much as I enjoy sims in general, I don't "get" labor simulation games, so I'm sincerely asking.

Yes, but there are also the short lines to consider, and they often have short trains...until you remember that BNSF and UP and two of the Biggest Railroads in NA. :D Their trains are usually as long as they can be.
(And CN in Canada is running 2-mile-long grain trains across the plains. :O
Pretty much, yes. For me the draw is the relaxing/unwinding of a reasonably stress-free-yet-interesting game, a love of big trucks (spoken as one who has never been inside one :P ) and the authenticity.
This game has some tweaks, such as being able to adjust field of view, or driving 3rd person, but overall, yes. To be fair, I don't recall the last time I waited an hour, usually 10-20 minutes, max (unless it is switching at a yard, which I don't think is in this game :P ).

At least of the ones I've counted (for lack of anything better to do while waiting for them to pass), the shortest trains I've seen tallied at 80 cars. There certainly could be shorter ones but, I mean, my point was that "long wait" seems like it'd be a fundamental part of the realistic, expected American train experience from the viewpoint of any American driver or pedestrian (and so, it should definitely lean closer to 100 cars than to 6, at the least). :P
I think labor simulation games will forever remain something out of touch for me, but I can definitely respect games that put a dedicated amount of effort into detail and realism. It'll definitely be something to look forward to for when VR games start becoming more immersive, especially. :)

I know what you mean about the "short" 80-car trains! I was just commenting that somewhere they have 10 car trains...or so I've heard :D
I totally agree! In my mind, a wait of at least 20 in-game minutes (or more) would be expected! [Now I'm wondering about the trains (if any) in the 18 Wheels of Steel franchise (also by SCS).... hmm....]
Ah, to each their own! It is wonderful that we have th opportunity to have such a varied selection of games, as people have different tastes. I personally love games that have "non-cartoony" style of graphics far more than those that have "cartoony" graphics. :)
As of yet, VR or AR isn't for me, as I have nowhere near the graphics capabilities in my hardware that would be required to run them. :D
