This one was called Ruby. She was clearly some sort of spaniel but I'm not sure of the exact breed, I was just sent a few photos. She was from Manchester so I was asked to do the worker bees on the collar. She seemed like a lovely dog. I like dogs and there a few I miss very much myself.
How do you even paint hair like that? It's brilliant. Not that I ever graduated from finger painting (actually stuck in my potato drawing phase) but it's awesome.
Basically just scribble a lot - although the trick is in a good balance and what you leave out if that makes any sense. That what one was digitally coloured (original below) and adding thin white highlights after everything else brings it to life - although I do similar things traditionally with watercolours and a white gel pen.
Negative space is a wonderful thing. You have excellent technique, obviously but mostly you have a great eye. Technique isn't everything. You really put some heart in there.
I don't even mind that Squigly is in here twice! :)
