Even if he sends you a key, you won't be able to activate it as you don't own the base game. This DLC is bugged on steam so you can enter it without owning the basegame. Hope the info is helpful.

Thanks for the heads up. I have giveaways hidden where i dont own the base game but this must be one of the exceptions.
