It matters to the GA creator, and it matters to the winner if they aren't familiar with rules/doesn't bother paying attention to what they're activating. But as far as just entering goes.. well, it's a pre-release game. There's no reason to stress over whether it's legitimate or not during the entry phase.

You could activate it, and see what the activation window says, if it says "demo" or such, mark it as not received, and file a support ticket.

It is definitely a beta demo, actually, becasue the game is not even released yet.
