Welcome to the twenty nineth week of the 52 weeks of Christmas!!! What is the 52 weeks of Christmas you might ask? I will be giving away a new game each week for 52 week. To make things more fun, I will be asking a new question each week also. I hope that by doing this I may brighten someones week. I even create a group on Steam where you can follow every giveaway(link at the bottom).I hope you will have as much fun as I do with this.

New Week, New Questions

Q1:1. A recent trend in games is to release story based themed dlc. The theme are usually centered around the horror genre but many different type exist. They usually bring the protagonist of the main game into some sort of bizarro world. Red Dead Redemption, Sleeping Dogs, Infamous and many others have tried it to different level of success. The latest themed dlc announced is Far Cry: Blood Dragon which looks absolutely crazy. Would you like to see more over the top crazy dlc like this released for games? Would you prefer those games to be standalone a la Far Cry?

Q2:2. In today's video games, most protagonist, male or female, are design to be attractive and somewhat relatable or likeable. Very few games go for an average protagonist even when the story calls for it. For example in Far Cry 3, even though the main characters has no experience with weapons, he is lethal behind them. So what qualities would you like to see in a main character, which ones turn you off? Would you like to see more variety in the looks of your characters (attractiveness, corpulence)? Are their tropes in which some characters falls in that would make the experience less enjoyable?

Thanks to (H.G.D.) BubbyBobble for Question number 2.

Weeks of Christmas

God bless. :)

I can't really comment much on Question 1 as I don't think I really have any experience with this... at least not with the games mentioned above

As for question 2, I certainly like a character that looks cool and fits the part - in most cases this does include an attractive looking person but it's not required. Features that would be seen as less attractive can still be ideal in making a character fit their role, background, personality, style and absolutely make them a great character. I think there's pretty much a time and a place for everything as long as it's well thought out and fits the overall vision.

I do find that in some games we're given a character who's presented as being an average person and yet, the way they play is anything but... I like when we're given a character who plays based on who they really are, and this goes both ways. If I'm playing super-hero type character, I expect to feel like they have power and experience that within their actions. Same goes for a character who is presented as an average person, I don't expect them to be able to snipe someone from 1000 miles away on the first shot or take someone out with their bare hands without breaking sweat. That being said, it doesn't mean that that average person can't develop and improve throughout the game into something more.

Q2: I think the protagonist should be someone you can at least partially relate to - John McClane, for example. The point is, nowadays companies either make a character that would pander to everyone (I am looking at you, Mass Effect and the surprise buttsex scene) or to the audience that buys the game (Gears of War, for example - just look at those uninteresting mountains of muscles; children love them, though).

1- I'm not really into these "bizarre" extensions, so I think standalone versions are better since they don't let me with the feeling of an incomplete game due to a missing DLC.

Thanks!
