Before I release the key I usually check the winner's steam account to make sure the game is not already owned and use sgtools to check for unactivated wins. Have no issue with a private account, so long as I can check what I want :) All done, key is yours, enjoy the game.
(You don't need to add me - sgtools tells me if there are unactivated or multiple wins. If your account is public anyone can see if a game is active on your account. The exception would be a dlc or perhaps a removed game, and I am not sure if removed games even show for friends.)
