Description

This giveaway is for a previously-bundled $2 game with ok reviews (65% recommended). Not bad, but there are much better giveaways that the Level 0 users among you are missing out on. Want to be able to enter those giveaways? Here are some tips:

  • Level up. You can actually do it without spending money. More here.
  • Participate in the forum. You'll not only find interesting discussions, but some hidden giveaways. Yesterday for example I posted a couple of Level 0 giveaways for games with great reviews, but you had to do some digging to find them. Another good reason to participate, especially if you're opinionated and well versed, is that some people may add you to their whitelists because of what you write, regardless of your ability to create giveaways. I have many great people in my whitelist, but those who ended there by writing exceptionally interesting, insightful or helpful posts on the forum should be especially proud. I know that's how I felt in the few cases people added me for this reason and not for my sent/won ratio.
  • Join the right groups. Reading the forums and giveaway descriptions (which you seem to be capable of, if you've reached this far) would help you find some nice groups with giveaways that become available only after you join (or are invited).

Good luck and have fun!

thank you a lot for this :)

Then I think I'll stay out for now. She's really a great person, but I need to be able to be myself. I don't want to spend much time phrasing what comes to mind in ways that would not possibly offend anyone. I am who I am.

Thanks for letting me know though. I appreciate it.

I don't know if you saw the thread I started on BAA right before the implosion, but I don't believe in keeping things bottled up. My suggestion could keep the chat drama-free, yet still allow people to voice their grievances publicly in the forum. Too bad it won't get a chance to be tested now that BAA is history.

The "bottled-up" point relates to criticism about other members behavior, group administration, how things are handled within the group etc. Some people have issues with these, and they should be allowed to voice them publicly. But the chat is not a suitable venue for this, especially when it results in an endless stream of complaints that makes people want to not come anymore.

In practice, it didn't work. People voiced their complaints to mods, and were not satisfied with the results. From there road to destruction was set. I prefer things to be more transparent and not have them brewing under ground, eventually leading to end an explosion (or implosion).

Also, not everything is about mods. Some members may use words that other members consider as slurs. Some members discuss subjects that are frowned upon by other members. Who would decide what is acceptable and what isn't if things can't be discussed in public? The problem is that discussing these kind of thing in chat makes it a very unpleasant place.

If you're curious, this is what I suggested:

Title:
Move fight-inducing discussions about the group from the chat to the forum - Yay or Nay?

Body:
The group chat was a great place to be for fun and lighthearted talk. Unfortunately this is no longer the case, and in the last few days it mostly a place for fighting and arguing about what happened and how things are unfair and unjust. Here's an example from a few minutes ago that shows that the current atmosphere just pushes people away (names changed to make this less personal and more illustrative of the problem):

12:40 AM - Baaer: Good night
12:40 AM - Baaist: so hypocritical and lopsided
12:40 AM - Baaer left chat.

You get the point.

I don't think complaints and grievances shouldn't be discussed openly, which is why I'm suggesting to move all such discussions to the forum. The main advantages would be:

  1. People get a chance to think more before they write. In contrast with chat, people tend to be more polite and calculated when they write on forums (especially when what they have to say is harsh in nature). More time allows people to also be more articulated and structured with their arguments, which means they are more likely to be able to pass what's on their heart effectively.
  2. All 87 members of the group can see the discussion and respond, not only those who happen to be connected to the chat.
  3. Proper history is kept. No need to rely on one's memory and after-the-fact interpretation of what he or she said.
  4. Guests don't see the dirty laundry and can't share their view on such subjects. Note that guests can't access the forum, but can connect to the chat (which is just fine most of the time, as they normally add to the discussion).
  5. Users can subscribe to forum notifications. So if they care about such subjects, they can see them. If not, they don't.
  6. The chatroom will be fun again!

So, move fight-inducing discussions about the group from the chat to the forum - Yay or Nay?
