I prefer The Next-to-Last Federation, but that could be just me.

On that note, Picard is pretty good so far.
What? Not every comment of mine can be a journey of musical Discovery. I'm not that Enterprising.
No worries- I'll likely once gain be a Voyager into those Deep Space depths with The Next Generation of giveaways.
Heck; Odds are, they'll be far better than The Original Series. I mean, aren't they always?

Sooth, you are in rare form today!
I watched the first episode of Picard and I agree, "pretty good" seems like the best description to me. It was great to see the character of Picard back on the screen, but it was extremely rushed. No time for character development, no time for subtlety or nuance, gotta keep moving! I'm hoping the pacing will get better now that we're done with the pilot and on to the "regular" episodes. (And I could do with less blatant fan service, to be honest... but I am probably in the minority there).

Then it wasn't "pretty good". It was at most "ok" by your description. "Passable" even

I don't know, I think I'm sticking with "pretty good".
EDITED TO HIDE SPOILERS
I liked the connections between the past (Romulan evacuation, androids going crazy) and the present, and I liked the acting performances, and I liked the fighting scenes. And I appreciated some (but definitely not all) of the fan service (the banner and the batleth in the "archives room" were pretty cool).
My only real problem was the pace, it was just too fast.
It's sort of like being served a delicious dinner, but then only being given 5 minutes to eat it. It's still tasty, and enjoyable... just not as enjoyable as it could have been, if you had more time to savor it.
