Description

Just stumbled upon Steamgifts and making my first giveaway. I hope I'm doing everything right.

Gift includes: Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Half-Life Deathmatch: Source.
As far as I understand how Steam works there is no regional restriction for this gift.

Thanks man! And welcome to SG. Here's a tip for you. In the Discussions page, sometimes people will post invite-only giveaways, which have way fewer entrants. That gives you better odds of winning. Oh, and there are a lot of group-only giveaways. Usually people want you to join their steam group, and then you get access to a lot of group-only giveaways with fewer entrants too. Anyway man, welcome and thanks!

Welcome to SG! Some more tips

  • Replying with generic thank you messages in others' GAs is a good way of getting yourself blacklisted by them.
  • There are a lot of bot and auto-joiner scripts (and maybe other unethical type of accounts), hence it is often wise to restrict your GAs to a minimum level of 1, or make them invite-only and hide them behind some puzzle or https://www.sgtools.info/ and post that in the discussions as Redino mentioned.
  • Make sure to read all the rules in case you haven't already.
  • There are a lot of unofficial and some official event here on SG (like the invite only community trains, official Christmas event). Keep an eye out for them.

Thank you! Still figuring out the community and service, such tips are very helpful!

Will limit giveaways by level as soon as will get a level by myself - overwise it looks unfair to me (as I already participating in no limit giveaways) :) Will check other options too to avoid scripts/bots.

I have read the rules and already created two giveaways to understand how everything works. This one and another one with regional restriction. Mainly to get to level 1. Most of "0 level" giveaways are not really interesting to me.

But even at "level 1" giveaways there are not just some interesting games available but even games from my whishlist. So leveling up here seems important stuff for me (especially when I see the difference in the amount of participants that is greatly reduced by each level).

Thanks for the tips!

Np 😁

Sure, that makes sense. I started adding level limits after reaching level 3 or 4. Though somehow I have not been able to create much GAs in a long time.

Leveling up might not change the game variety much imo. Most of the GAs, probably 95%+, are of games that have been bundled. At least that is my understanding. You'll find the unique non-bundled GAs in group-only GAs more often, specially since there are some groups that require you to make non-bundled or quality GAs on regular basis. Often there are a lot of requirements for such quality groups.
Ofc, the amount of participants decrease drastically for higher level GAs, as there seems to be a lot of bots / auto-joiner accounts / dupe accounts / leechers. Here's some stats:

Notice the sheer difference between the number of users at level 0 & level 1. The above stats where what was enough for me to start adding level restrictions. Also, leveling up after a certain level doesn't benefit as much if you are leveling up just to enter GAs, or at last that is something I have been told by someone in a discussion.

I don't have experience yet to draw conclusions. But at first glance, based on giveaways that are available right now in the "level 1+" category I can see more current games. And as I said, most of games from my whishlist are only present in "lvl 1+" category.

Here's some stats:

Wow! 974k accounts on lvl 0, 113k on lvl 1 and just 18k on lvl 2... Crazy difference! That statistic alone makes me agree with you regarding the need of limiting giveaways by level -_-

Also, leveling up after a certain level doesn't benefit as much if you are leveling up just to enter GAs

It won't be true if I say that I'm only here to give... But if I will get along with the service itself and the community - it can be nice not to be a parasite :)

Ah, if you are aiming for just 1+, then yeah it makes sense. I though you meant like 5+ or something when you said higher levels.

Amen. I try to do my part as well, but so far I have leeched off more than I have given back. :/

Congrats!

Yes, just 1+ (already got it) to take part in interesting giveaways I can see right now. Maybe 3+ (also some interesting games available at this level).
So far it seems that it is not too hard to get levels here (already 1.65 after making 2 giveaways). Just need to see reason for leveling up.

But I like that here I can replace "news-doomscrolling" with "giveaways-scrolling". It's entertaining and distracting. So I'm OK to to invest some modest money into this.

Probably it work this way here as well.

Got it.
Well leveling up gets harder at every level. Level 1 is just too easy and imo everyone should be at least level 1.

True. It's kinda also addictive, at least for me to try my luck out. Kind of a little like gambling.
The community is kinda nice too. There are a lot of great people and some, well, not so great ones too.

Hi Andy,

I hope you are willing to help me learn more about hiding codes in pictures. I already have the Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition. But I have not been able to decipher the code hidden in the sky. :) Meanwhile, I am gearing up for a train and would like to employ the same encryption for some of the train cars. But not only have I not been able to solve yours... I don't know how to create my own. Are you able to help?

I sent a friend request via Steam to be able to talk in private if you are willing. Either way, thank you for your efforts here at SteamGifts. :)
