I definitely agree that in a way, just saying 'thanks' is worse than just submitting without saying anything. It's like you're putting forth the barest effort to comply with social norms. 90% of the time when I enter a giveways I don't say anything. Maybe that's rude, but when I've done giveaways in the past it didn't really bother me if nobody posted anything.
