That's what makes him so damn smart, afterall. It's some kind of mind-boosting nootropic powder or something. Gets it from Rome, or some big city he liked to travel to often.

Ripped pants are ... sad. What can you do? Completely disabling on most all levels of functionality after that, until a suitable replacement is found. You have to hide in a container or box like Solid Snake. There were plenty of red flags here that none of us paid attention to...
Looks like the pants ripping God took control of everyone as this situation unfolded.... to make these things end up the way the did.
