I'll recommend a few of my favorites. :)

Hotline Miami is an extremely good top down shooter, it's very satisfying every time you clear a floor.
Thomas Was Alone is a fun puzzle platformer, it gives rectangles character.
The Binding of Isaac is a Legend of Zelda like game, with 100s of hours of content.
Super Meat Boy is an amazingly hard platformer with hundreds of levels.
Eversion is a small but creepy little platformer designed to look like a kids NES game.
Braid is a beautiful little puzzle platformer, with a big emphasis on the puzzles.

Papers Please and FTL are a couple good indies.

It may not be indie, but you only have 2.3 hours of Killing Floor... maybe you should give it another try.

Well, most recently I've been into Rogue Legacy and Spelunky, and I'd recommend both. There are so many good indie games out there these days though.

FTL: Faster Than Light is amazing! If you ever wanted to pilot a space ship, this is the game to do it in.

Thanks! I have way too many indies to recommend, but my highlights are Hotline Miami for its gory setting, The Binding of Isaac and FTL for their incredibly tough but fun roguelike playstyles, Thomas Was Alone and Braid for their charming storytelling (and Braid's mind-melting puzzles), Super Meat Boy's intense platforming, and Paranormal's randomly-generated terrors.
