its free, the whole site is, some courses you can pay if you want to earn credit instead of just the certificate

by the way on its syllabus, I think player will go through everything until the end of the mission. I will play before the course starts to get used with the game first :D

It says they are running 2 parallel courses, one focused on LoTRO, one not. So, no I don't think you need to play it.

So basically the purpose of the course is to study the history and setting behind MMOs, but since we're talking about Tolkien here and his construction of a fable universe (a very rich one at that), and the background of the instructor, we'll be most likely talking about the deeper meaning of his (Tolkien) literature.

So...basically, a way to introduce literature to a younger, interactive content driven audience.

Its more of a sociology course then just literature, aspects of online community and economics will be discussed
