Nice deconstruction of the game there, but it doesn't address the plot points Jonex is asking about.
For that, I'd suggest reading the two articles where a marine candidly gives his thoughts about the game as he plays.

I've managed to understand most of the story, but there are a few questions below that I haven't managed to answer.
The 33rd were good or bad? At one point I see them herding civilians together like cattle. Next, I see civilians worshiping General Konrad.
Why did the CIA support the insurgents against the 33rd?
Why did the insurgents even exist?
The radioman (the most chilled out guy in the whole game), was commanding the 33rd the entire time???
If Walker and his Delta Force buddies were able to walk through the sand wall, why didn't they just evacuate Dubai all those months ago?
I understand that the game was left open to interpretation, but even any thoughts/ideas are appreciated.
