^This. Pen guns are real, and they can kill a person. Until I see a real gunblade (or the lancer from GoW), I feel that the pen is definitely mightier than the sword.
And of course there's also all of the philosophical reasoning to it as well. Just remember, how we view history isn't based on the people who fought in wars, it's based on how the writers portrayed the people who fought in wars.

More importantly, they're also used to sign treaties and declarations of war, as well as for writing laws, revolutionary tracts, subversive literature, political treatises, scientific journals, and every other thing that has allowed the passage of knowledge from one generation to the next, allowing the development of human civilization. With simple weapons, you only have people mindlessly slaughtering each other with no possibility for advancement.

Neither have I, but a pen is easier to hide and dispose. A guy with a sword would be rather suspicious, whereas everyone has a pen, so you never know who might randomly stab your neck.
