Nope. Just the badge as far as we know.

Yes, the badge. Which you have.

You just get the badge in your Steam profile, it's sorta like an achievement for Steam. What, were you expecting free games or something?? It's just a little something to show you're an active member in Steam community.

Well, the last year I got a free Farcry 2 for completing the sale's achivements.

Oh, I didn't know unlocking some badges has had additional bonuses. I have thought badges were purely achievement-type things, just for show :/

the badges have always been just for show, though they did give beta access to the new steam community based on how early people got the pillar of community badge.

the free games last year had some similar achievements, like having at least 10 items on your wishlist, but most were in-game achievements.

During last year's winter sale we had non-badge achievements with games as potential rewards. The badges themselves were implemented just a few months ago.

Nah - they're just cosmetic. He's pulling your leg.

The badges are an eternal tribute to the Coal Farmers of 2011.

Oh, silly me. I forgot the badges were implemented only recently. Hanneman213 meant of course that last year there was a campaign that gave prizes but those naturally don't have anything to do with the badge system we have now.

Oops. Yes, I misread that post too...

Sorry Hanneman213 :(

Actually, first X people to achieve 'Pillar of community' got some rewards... Can't remember were there coupons or something... But I know I got something and it said underneath "because you are a pillar of community blah blah".

I really hope these badges will be useful in the future.

I doubt it. These badges are pretty much just for show, nothing more to it. Steam could of course make a campaign of some sort where people with many badges would get some special treats, but I don't think that's going to happen.

People seem to have expected exactly that and it is the way it's been before but in my opinion nobody really has the right to expect a free game. It's moderately disappointing but some people seem genuinely angry.

I'm angry that you're not angry. It makes my blood boil.

Do they know who I am? Where's my free stuff?

Steam probably thinks these badges are enough for a reward, so there are no free games given. I wasn't expecting to get anything other than the badge to my profile after completing the required tasks :/

Over the summer, there was a similar set of 7 achievements:

  • Completing 3 gave you the "Junior Architect" badge (blueprints).
  • Completing 5 gave you the "Elevated Carpenter" badge (treehouse frame).
  • Completing all 7 gave you "King of the Fort" badge (completed treehouse).

It would have been nice to see at least two tiers for the badge, one for 4 achievements (like they did) and then another if you completed all 6, for example a decorated tree.

Everything you need to know about last year

Nothing happened this year other than the badge. It's a shame they don't even have a different badge for 4/6 or 6/6.

Man, do I really miss that. I just joined the summer of 2011 so I didn't have too many games and couldn't participate in many of the achievements from the event. But now that I have way more games than I did last year, I was hoping for the same thing happen and nope, Valve had just decided to have sales and community voting...

How the fuck did you complete it six days ago? How did you participate in 15 votes? Has there even been that many?

Permalink

Because you only need 4/6 to get the badge. I got it once I voted on the 5th community choice.

I wish the badge got upgraded after completing all the tasks, maybe some tree lights or a star on top of the tree to differentiate
the difference between someone that complete partial tasks and people that completed the whole thing.
like the summer camp badge had 3 versions of it. Oh well nothing I can do about it :3

I also think the different stages of the Summer Sale badge was a pretty neat feature. On the other hand, my Summer Sale badge shows clearly I wasn't able to fully finish it (I didn't have access to internet on some days, so I couldn't participate in voting every day). It bugs me a little to have an incomplete badge... Now I have no access to Steam's mobile version, so I won't be able to fully complete the Winter Sale badge, but luckily it doesn't show on my badge :)

I'm too lazy to go through the old threads, but a couple of days ago there was a post about an android emulator so you could get a complete badge without access to a smartphone.

I agree.. I was thinking about the same thing hoping that would happen.

Steam summer sale 2011 and Steam holiday sale 2011 had that and it was pretty cool.

Yep... QUITE disappointed that there was no tier 2 for the achievement like the summer one.
