Because reasons (basically many people derped, myself included) I wound up getting my copy of Homeworld Remastered for free. Since I still want to financially support the remake I've purchased a second copy to give to you jackasses lovely people. Comment below with why you would like (or think you would like, in case you haven't played HW before) to own this game. If I like what you've said then you'll be temporarily added to my whitelist and invited to a giveaway for Homeworld Remastered. It doesn't have to be some heart warming story about how your mom died when the original game was released and she sounded just like Karan S'Jet so the game helped you deal with your grief. dafuq? It'll just be whatever comments I randomly decide I like. Unless there are a lot of exceptional comments I only plan to invite about 10 people total.

Update to end all updates: Thread closed and everyone's been notified. Thanks for your comments, everyone.

The new potato was actually relevant for once.
I am an embarrassment to my kiith and have no idea why that's relevant.

Because I am a sexy bastard

I did play the original Homeworld a bit back in the days. If my memory serves, it had one of the best soundtracks around. If I were get the chance to play the original Homeworld properly (in the comfort of my own home), I guess I would have to track down Cataclysm as well (any idea why it never got released on steam?).

Anyway, here is a picture of a relevant capybara:

The source code for Cataclysm was lost due to the dev studio becoming defunct. No doubt it will be released as a mod at some point.

And how did you get that leaked picture of the Homeworld 4 Mothership?!

Ah, that's a real shame :( I hope someone somewhere saved a copy to disc (lost source code tend to show up every once in a while, often when the developers clean their attics).

Oh, and I have my sources in the game industry.

The question of where the Capybananaship would launch super capital ships is probably best left unanswered.

I imagine the Homeworld community would offer a pretty substantial bribe to any Naughty Dog Studios dev who could clean their closet and find an old disc or hard drive with that source code on it.

I like space-themed films and games, i keep updated ocasionally about planet discoveries and missions. I'm the only one that doesn't think a colony on mars is bullshit, i really believe i will live enough to see that happen.

Played the game during its original release many many times. No end of restarts to try out new strategies and get different endings/sub-stories.
Great game, and one that was actually pretty damn amusing how it would "cheat the cheaters" so to speak. Many of the missions had their difficulty adjusted based on your own amount of forces. So cheating to advance with a massive fleet only meant you were persistently facing a massive enemy fleet and would have zero opportunity to rebuild your forces in time before being wiped out after the initial assault. <3

Actually worked out nicely to SCRAP your smaller vessels and just keep capital or Cruiser ships so minimise your "fleet power" for the next scenario, then mass build fighters at the beginning to repel initial attacks while planning your assault.

Been many years since played. Newer computers just proved too fast to run the dang thing. One of your moves equated to ten enemy movements >.^ Certaintly an old-school gem though. Though, even I'm not convinced about removing formations...

Still, perhaps more importantly still. What's this about getting a free copy of it? I WANT ONE! Lol.... Maybe from giveaways.

Eh? Removing formations?

And here is how I wound up with a free copy.

Ah, so still had to order a copy. xD Thought was some kinda loophole... Lol.

And yeah, Evasive Tactics, Star Strike and stuff like that. Well, maybe I'm thinking of HW2 versus the Remastered Editions. I liked the "Formations" settings in the original. Made it easy to dessimate and wipe out smaller strike vessels with minimum casualties. A properly formed row of Corvettes could easily destroy multiple wings of fighters before needing repairs.

Formations and tactics still exist in HW: Remastered, rest assured. :)

I live near a town here in Sweden called "Trosa", which also happens to be the swedish singular name for womens underwear, and on top of that, the towns slogan is (or at least used to be, i havent been there in a long time so i don't know) "Trosa, Världens Ände", and the literal translation of that would be something like: "Panty, The End of the World" (Not end as in apocalypse ;3. End as in the end of a/the road).

Lel.

I have never played Homeworld.

Homeworld was an old favorite of my friends back in school. I've now lost a lot of touch with most of them, but one friend still plays some online games with me from time to time. HW:R is on our list to get and play to keep in touch.

I did see it and just hadn't gotten around to making my second and final round of picks due to spending 12 hours on a questionable purchase because I am a weak and horrible person. <.<

100% agreed about the mods though. Even aside from other franchises they had great stuff like Complex, and Dustwars which I was looking forward to but was never completed. I fanboied out a bit when I saw a Macross mod.

Ever feel that Homeworld Cataclysm is underrated? Just a question for OP.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In fact I do. The gripe that the story concept is trite is valid, but I'd say the quality of it is still close to Homeworld standards, the gameplay is enjoyable, and the new ships are well done. I couldn't find much to complain about and am very much looking forward to the inevitable mod or DLC that adds the Cata campaign & units to Remastered.

I actually felt like Cataclysm really expanded the universe, even though they tend to love the "outskirts" of every system. The setting was very well done. Not sure if it could be done on Remastered without projectile physics though.

I liked seeing some of the aftermath of the first game's campaign, e.g. the resultant schism in the Taiidan.

Basically Taiidan Civil War. Felt like Homeworld 2 didn't really build up well enough of the aftermath of Homeworld 1 which I found a shame. In fact I'd go as far to say I felt disappointed about Homeworld 2.

Agreed. It felt like they jumped the shark a bit by going into Progenitor tech.

Yip. Though I think that was their plan. They originally intended to have the T-MAT in but that got scrapped. You do see their Motherships at the end of HW2 Campaign though.

I remember the earlier E3 trailers where they had Megaliths,. Interesting concept but don't think they had the tech to do it. Also the Vaygr were the "good guys" in it lol.
