Don't know about the online part, but have co-op.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed isn't really a good racing.. those boats and planes stuffs and the short circuits make it pretty bad imo.

Trackmania?

Dirt 3 is pretty fun, and it's "newer" than other racing games I would recommend, just not sure how many plays it online.

As mentioned, Sonic and All Stars Racing is probably what you are looking for. Similar to that power up drift Mario Kart style if you liked that

Dirt 3 is my favorite racing game at the moment, kinda arcady but with a little bit of sim, you can adjust the difficulty that best suit you.

Are the dirt games easy to control? Not simulations or anything? Like I said I really never play these games, so I dont have a clue how they are. ^^

Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Being chased by cops adds a nice element. I'm not a sim racing fan at all.

Just bought grid and love it. It's arcady not that realistic but i can't play it online. It won't connect for me. It may be that servers are down for the first grid. But yeah Dirt series are super too. If you want some random stuff get dirt showdown. No logic there but it's fun with friends. Every dirt game is awesome for me. But if you want racing simulator the best one get ps3 and Gran turismo 5.

you can try Tales runner but i'm not sure it support xbox.
its racing mmo game that include, swim,run,climbing,ski if it sounds good check it on youtube.

Well, unless you're talking specifically about cars, I'd bet on this one. But sadly, it's not even greenlit yet. :P
Anyways, DiRT Showdown seems a nice arcade racing game for me. I haven't played DiRT 2 yet, but people says it's even better. :)

Burnout Paradise

I never like racing games and now I play three series: simulations Race07, OFF Road Driving and an arcade style series DIRT.

Crash team racing. And yes, you can get it on computer and yes, you can make it so that your XBawx controller works with it.

Well for steam... my favorites are the three karting games, which are F1 Race Stars, Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed, and Zero Gear. I know for a fact Sonic has xbox controller support, although Zero Gear is my favorite of the three. F1 and Zero Gear both have partial controller support but I have no clue if it's XInput or DirectInput (I'd check but I'm heading to bed soon). Sadly Zero Gear is dead and I haven't checked out F1's multiplayer, so by process of elimination I'll say Sonic Racing (Make sure to get Transformed and not the original one)

u'll not get bored with this... it have a lot of things to do more than just racers (i have it for ps3). for steam... i would say that FlatOut2;
