I haven't played a Zelda game since A Link To The Past on SNES. I enjoyed 1, 2 and LttP, but I didn't beat it and didn't own another Nintendo system until the Wii, so I never bothered playing another one.

well, I did enjoy skyrim a lot (only after modding), but every 20 hours of playing I got bored and made half year break... repeated it twice since then (i love to play rpgs very detailed - doing every mission, finding all places, killing all monsters) now I'm like in 75% game completed and I'm stuck... can't play it anymore, it's still on my harddrive... since it was released...

= so I enjoy it a lot, but it's getting boring a lot too pretty fast.

To me its the most relaxing game ive ever played, no matter what difficulty i choose, i can waste time just sitting in my house in windhelm reading books and making food, meanwhile in the real life and have studies to do and dinner to make.
i once discussed this with a friend, and we both ended up agreeing, that the problem with skyrim and to some extent oblivion is that it lacks a sense of progress, even leveling up is not as rewarding as it used to be, theres no specialization thats really needed

Comment has been collapsed.

I can agree with this. I never feel like I've accomplished anything in that game. And I get distracted by every flower, chest, cave and building, which means I never seem to get anywhere, either. I've put in over 100 hours and haven't beaten the main story or the civil war quest. Or any major quest, for that matter.

There's a lot of great moments from that game, but they're pretty much all random events and that just happened, like getting attacked by a dragon while in a small village, only to have another dragon join in, causing the whole village to fight back and prevail. But I never feel anything really pushing me forward. its mostly just aimless wandering.

239 hours in, and still feel like I've barely started. It doesn't help that I have started over a gazzilion times! Though unlike the OP, I LOVE Skyrim and all the other Bethesda games. I'm really into Fallout 3 atm after getting it on a sale a few weeks ago.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I loved Fallout 3 and had no trouble completing it, although I never did finish up the DLC. I bought the GOTY edition years later, so its kind of hard to go back after so long. I think one thing that really helped me in Fallout 3 vs. Skyrim was that I used the console to disable the weight limit in Fallout 3, so I didn't spend so much time going back to my house to drop off all of the pointless stuff I'd picked up. I just can't help but loot every bit of thing in those type of games.

I'm sure I've spent at least 40 hours of Skyrim just smithing looted armors/weapons and selling crap I picked up. Its rather hard to have much flow when I'm constantly turning around and going back to town to sell.

I wasn't aware Terraria had a story. Also, that's totally okey, but no one stands for 30 hours of something they don't like just for a story, you must like it at least the amount necesary to go through all that without quitting.

EDIT RESPONSE: I don't think that matters.

...I can stand stuff that I don't like(especially in the context of Terraria, it was the only thing I had to play at the time) and Terraria doesn't necessarily count. That's a sandbox game with variety in the gameplay.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's a plataformer, right? And you plataform through the whole game, I don't see why it doesn't count. And congrats on the resistance! I wouldn't do it myself, altough sometimes I try to make myself like something I don't to justify the hype I had before getting it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Now you're just being a smartass, sorry to say(no offense intended). It's a platformer of course but there's variety in all of them. It's not only a 'platformer'. It's a sandbox game similar to Minecraft. I can only stand Minecraft and Terraria both because they have variety in gameplay and overall enjoyment other than making the first-person perspective annoying and simply not enjoyable. For me, that is. Minecraft gets a pass because it didn't have a disorienting effect that other games had. Usually the FPS games have this 'zoomed in' feel that I can't get past.

For context, most of the FPS/Platformer games I have played were gifted or bought for me, so I played them on a whim to try and enjoy them for what I was given.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I always try not to be a smartass, but you gave me no choice. The game may be lots of things, but in the core, it's a plataformer, and it should be counted. As the zoomed in feeling, I get what you mean, still, that didn't hold you when playing games like Left 4 dead 2 (unless there's a third person mode I didn't knew about), and that one barely holds any story at all. I get that FPS are not your kind of games but I think "not liking them" is a bit off.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Left 4 Dead 2 is odd for me. I can enjoy it but I think it's because it's faster paced and more focused on the combat. The fast-paced gameplay still gets me and I tend to play it in rare occurrences but it's still fun to play just running around hitting things with baseball bats. Also, mods! My game is a god damn circus.

it depends on the game but I still hold to my opinion. I absolutely hate the overall FPS/Platformer genre and I've only been able to play a few games and actually enjoy them.

Also, I got L4D2 in the Valve pack at like 90% or a very low price whatever it was, so I don't know what you're getting at. I got it for pretty much nothing. I can stick my chin up and ignore the inconveniences to pass the time whether not I like it, it's a good game. The FPS part is just annoying.

EDIT: I still regard Terraria and Starbound as being sandboxes. That being said, the platformer part DOES push me away constantly. The world doesn't 'pop' out at me.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I got L4D2 for literally nothing when Valve gifted it on christmas time, I wasn't going anywhere with that neither I mentioned anything like it. Also, you just mentioned a lot of FPS! I think you should give the genre another chance, as well as plataforming, you might find out you liked them after all (even though I still claim you kinda do).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't. I already stated that it's only certain games and even then I still feel extremely bored when playing the games I did play for an extended amount of time e.g. Terraria. God, that was some of the worst gametime of my life. Tedious, boring, and just not that pretty to look at as others claimed.

Trying to paint taste in game genres to such a black and white extent is silly. Just because they like one or two titles in a genre, doesnt mean they like the genre as a whole. Literally anything you like or dislike, you can find exceptions for. Itd be completely ridiculous to claim to like a genre, but only that one game. Besides, with a cross genre game like Terraria, people that dont like platformers as a whole, might still play and enjoy it because they do like sandboxers.

I know the feeling. I played the Euro Truck Simulator 2 demo for about 20-40 hours, then bought the game full price and played it for 0.3 hours. I've owned it for two years now.

Just pretend that you played the demo for 0.3 hours and the actual game for 40.

Thanks for Skyrim!

Speaking of which - I haven't played it, nor do I intend to, even though I love RPGs.

I honestly don't think I've ever fully completely any game other than a Fashion Design game on my DS when I was 9. I either lose motivation or I end up raging and never playing again.

I don't like Mario games. I don't hate them, they just don't do anything for me.

If you "actually" want bad rats, I have a few spare copies. I was going to use them to troll my friends, but I can spare one
