I don't like Counter Strike games. And that kind of multiplayer FPSs as a whole. You are always doing the same thing, over and over, sometimes on the same map for hours.

There are some shooters I like, but not many. Borderlands(especially number 2) or... Duke Nukem Forever. Yep, I finished it. It was really boring at first, but some hours later(I wanted to drop it, but Playfire...) I started to enjoy it. And the DLC is REALLY good.

One of the few that really changed how I felt about online shooters was Battlefield: Bad Company ( and Bad Company 2). Being able to destroy walls and cover was a revelation! I get so tired of people taking shelter from RPGs behind the walls of a tin shack or a shrub. It really meant that people had to be aware of their surrounding and not just camp, or someone would bring the building down on you.

But even that got old before too long. I prefer a single-player game with a well-crafted story. Decent combat mechanics help, but I can slog through it if the story is solid (Dragon Age: Origins, for example).

I don't really like MMO's or MP only games I don't mind playing with people, but I feel being forced to play with people online is a bad thing.

I think mostly I don't like it because I never know if I will always have internet so getting addicted to a game like that and not being able to play it anymore would break my heart.

Source: Was a WoW player for a few months until I lost my internet connection and didn't want to keep paying for my subscription.

Same here, I don't even try any MMO's games, although my reason is a little bit different.

I don't even start playing such games, because I know I would get addicted, and I don't have that much time to play games.

Why do people obsess over CS:GO but hate Call of Duty? It looks like the same game, except Call of Duty lives up to all of it's stereotypes, and Call of Duty doesn't have $2,000 skins for their guns. Anyway, my confession is i despise CS:GO and I don't think Call of Duty is too bad. I don't go with the fan base for COD, so that's part of it. Also, I'm pretty sure COD is more action-packed than CS:GO

I liked Half-Life...until Xen then hated it. That final boss? LAME! a baby with a head that opens or something, huh? I just finished and the first couple hours I couldn't figure out why I quit playing this all those years ago (got it on release date, in a big box and everything!). While we are on the subject, Opposing forces was good with cool new weapons, but the final boss sucked too. Oh No! It's a...blob? Maybe? With T-Rex arms? Then there's Blue Shift's final boss: a valve. It wasn't exactly, but yeah it kinda was. Getting that off my chest feels good...let's do some more!

I can't play FPS on a console. Can't use the controller. Except I use it on 3rd person games. I have every headshot trophy on the Uncharted games, and maybe 10 shots between them came using the sniper rifle. The part in 3 where you have to snipe the dudes, I played that section more than 50 times. I'll even use a controller for 3rd games on PC sometimes and have no problems. Just that 1st person man....

Also don't like "realistic" games. Like CS:GO and anything where getting shot in the right toe kills you. TF2 is more my kind, getting blown up may not kill you? Yep, I'm in.

What else to confess? OH! Crafting. HATE IT! I just don't get any joy in putting this thing and that together to make that other thing that's like my thing but different from my thing but not really. I now ignore any game with crafting.

I think that's it for now....

It's not so much fps hate, it seems there's hate for certain fps, we like the genre then hear THIS IS THE GREATEST GAME EVER OMG BUY BUY BUY()!&$!$&$* So we buy and hate it and feel we wasted time and money which then becomes SOOO MUCH HATE@!$#

Sports games on the other hand are pretty much you get what you expect. Most come in two flavors, a little better than last years version or a little worse. Add to that the rather large lack of sports games on steam. Although I'm making an assumption that only a small number of Steamgifts users are console gamers...

I agree about the corporations. I don't know much about Blizzard, but Valve I do agree wholeheartedly. They don't give a fuck about their customers. There's so much hate around EA when I have no trouble believing half the hate is just people piling up on, just to be on the train and not left behind.
In the end pretty much all of them are alike, greedy fucks who don't care about their customers or their products.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

EA buys studios just to destroy them when they can no longer make a profit out of theyr titles, along with many other nasty things, and most people are aware of that

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm not defending EA, don't get me wrong.
I'm just saying that pretty much all of them are horrible in their own way and I think the EA hate train is just a sterotype for gamers, they just hate it because everyone does. Some people still hate Origin and claim it's unstable when it's not... Compared to Steam, it has an awesome customer support.
Just like Voidy said, Ubisoft, Activision etc... don't even try to hide their shitty strategies while Valve and Blizzard dont care about their customers and hide their shitiness and people buy it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i know, its just that, like you said other companies try a little harder to hide it.
The reasons to dislike EA are obvious, i assume most have a justified hate, cant speak on behalf of people i dont know, but i sincerely hope more that half of them have an idea before expressing their opinion

Interesting points, I didn't think about it like that.
But I still think some part of the love is just hype, cause the things you explained are certainly not unique to Deus Ex.

I played Deus Ex Human Revolution almost without being discovered, ever (I think there's an achievement if you complete the game without killing enemies).
Playing it as a simple FPS is still possible (and that's why the game is so good) but the very "interesting" part comes from the stealth action.

I didn't like Tomb Raider 2013 (I actually dislike it). Crying beaten Lara Croft slaughtering countless toughs through QTEs, all supported by a "seriously?" plot.
I played the very first Tomb Raiders as a kid and the 2013 game just wiped away years of enjoyment... definitely my worst gaming letdown, at least in years.

Anyway, installed, started playing, struggled for 2h of crying + QTE, stopped. Decided to give it another chance, played again and Alt+F4ed (spoiler alert) when the airplane gets hit by a lightning bolt... I mean... really? If that is the plot they come up with on a plot-driven game I just can't continue and gg.
(I think I went further then, because I have 5h gameplay but well...)

I started playing the Tomb Raider series with Tomb Raider 2, when I was a kid on Playstation 1.
I liked how they changed everything and gave it a new perspective. It made Lara seem more human and vulnerable.
She got tougher and tougher as you progressed through the game, towards the end she was more ruthless and didn't cry anymore!
It built up her character.
Plus, the reason she was so vulnerable and crying all the time in the beginning is, this is basically Lara's first ever adventure where as the previous Tomb Raider games, Lara was already an experienced "Tomb Raider".

Comment has been collapsed.

I understand that but you are FORCED to kill guys when you could just try to stealth through them, this makes no sense. You don't get strong by killing countless men.
Also, lighten plane crash aside, a teenager killing countless toughs all by herself? this makes no sense x2
That's it, that game made really no sense, I don't know if there were plot twists like the island empowering Lara through a secret artifact or else but I hate when things make no sense.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well you have to consider some things are just part of the game and are supposed to be fun.
I remember really old FPS games where you took out, basically an army of enemies, all by yourself. That doesn't make sense at all either, but it was fun. :P

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Exactly, the big difference is that on those games you were a badass from start (mostly) and it was natural to progress devastating any animated being (doom, duke nukem, etc). Also enemies were searching for you, to kill you, not just sitting on their island-fort playing cards.
