You are bound to get those kind of comments on a public giveaway..... sorry.
Also, thank you for that puzzle, i'll have a look at it once i fill my belly with pasta.

thanks
lol yeah i guess this is true but meh, what can you do about it? at least they are showing their appreciation instead of just entering and not leaving a comment
Comment has been collapsed.
Would you rather not see any thanks though? Just curious on your opinion of a wall filled with thanks vs an empty wall.
Comment has been collapsed.
Both options are kind of crap, but at least when the wall's empty of spam you know that any comments that DO show up are totally genuine and not just lazy copypasta.
Besides, someone will
at some point think of saying
"Thanks" in a haiku.
At least that'd be creative. until it got copypasta'd to death

A lot more people said something else than a "copypasted "Thanks"" in your giveaway. Stop complaining. No one is going to come up with something to say on every single giveaway they enter. If you want something else than "thanks" in the comments, than ask a question or something.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't get it. It would be weird if he/she complained about the senseless "thanks" comments and then have a 1:1 ratio of entries / comments.
This is actually congruent with what he/she is saying.
Comment has been collapsed.
I disagree, I'd rather see nothing at all then a wall of thanks. I don't think I've ever commented on a giveaway. If I do it's because I've got something more to say than thanks.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thats like in real life if someone does something nice for like open the door for you then you just walk by, not saying a thing because you didn't have more to say than "Thanks" or "Thank you". The fact that you say even just "thanks" shows some appreciation. Even if its not much, the fact that someone even takes a second out of there life to say "Thank you" shows some gratitude even if its only a sliver.

Could be that he has a backlog of games and it's not high up in his current gaming plan. I know I wouldn't immediately play a game I got off here, most because of the countless games I haven't beaten yet.

The way I see it, saying "Thanks" is more a courtesy than anything else. Sure, people are grateful for your generosity, but whatever they say in the way of thanking you has the exact same meaning. We are always thankful, but faking a deep, unimaginable gratitude reeks of artificial praise. Saying "Thanks" is a nice, genuine way of expressing gratitude, which is why you see so much of it. Personally I am a little annoyed by the people who pretend seeing a gift is the greatest thing that's ever happened to them, but maybe that's just me being cynical.

I have to agree with this view, while i do make one short "Thank you", the rest of the comment is usually just random stuff about the game, a thought, or just more random shit. I dont think i could really just post a comment saying "OMG YOU MADE MY DAY I'M GOING TO LICK YOUR BOOT ALL DAY LONG!" without sounding extremely sarcastic about it (there are a few exceptions where my mood allows me to do such things, but its not common).

I don't think anyone acts like that. Though if someone sees a game they really want of course they will be more excited.
Comment has been collapsed.
Agreed they'd be more excited. I know I am excited when I see a giveaway of dlc I want but rarely see (dlc is mainly what I want in terms of giveaways). But I do see people acting like this. I don't really find it annoying, but I can see why it'd come off as annoying.
However would like to note I don't copy pasta any of my thanks; each one is typed in, I don't always say "thanks" and I have made comments on the game. I've also said thanks for games I already own (and have really enjoyed) just because it's nice to see a great game shared :) not really sure why people find these "copy pasta'd" thanks so annoying, so I agree with Itherian here.

I rather have a copy-pasted "Thanks" than having nothing at all. To many people enter giveaways and don't say a thing, that bothers me but oh well it's how it is and we have to live with it I guess.

Its not that big a deal to me, I say thanks sometimes or something else, honestly depends on my mood or if I even have anything of interest to say, its fine, its rude to say nothing at all imo.
Basically if I can't think of anything its thanks or something like thanks for the chance, etc...you know? Oh well its an opinion after all.

There are quite a few threads on this subject. You'll find both people defending Thanks (even if a simple thanks or more elaborate one) and people defending not commenting at all. This has been discussed so many times.
That thank you button is even worse...

thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks
there are groups/people in SG which really hate it when people are too lazy to write a "thank you" comment. Actually do you have any alternative ideas about what someone should say for gifts from people they dont know?
So what disgusts you is the repetitive zillions of "thanks" But then again lots of people do the same things all the time you just don't see them all doing that "for instance you wash your face when u get up, say hi when u see someone etc.." that doesn't mean you should change standard actions/responds to certain things..

But what are you suggesting? Are you saying no one should comment on anyone's giveaway unless they got something more to say than just "Thanks!" or that only your giveaways shouldn't be commented? I mean, what is your point? Should there be a rule about it or should comments be limited to a minimum of 10 letters or... what?
It bothers me if you actually want to disallow people from thanking with only a few letters/words on giveaways. I'm pretty sure there are a plenty of people who wants to see at least something, whether it was a simple "Thanks!". I guess your best bet would be to find something good about those sole words and stop thinking them as a negative thing, or at least be neutral about it. You are only hurting yourself.

I'd rather see the comments used for actual comments. Yes that means for many giveaways they'd not get comments but it makes it much easier to find real comments that are worth reading. The endless pages of thanks are meaningless to me and I don't post them myself or want them when I make a give away.
I wouldn't fight to get the thanks post banned but I certainly wouldn't be upset if they did ban them, I think it would make the comments more useful.

When I got invited to this site, one of the things I got told when I joined were that I should thank the gifter for his generosity and giveaway.I would do it anyway as I always do just mentioning it since it seems you feel it's a wrong thing to do and it's something that might be banned if enough people request it.
I guess the invite only registration had a point.
Apart from that, I enjoy reading the comments to my giveaways very much. I know most of them are not just "Thank you" but even those simple "Thank you"s which you do not consider actual comments, I usually read and comment to. Stories, links and random comments are awesome too <3

From now on everyone is just going to say "Thanks" on your giveaways or nothing at all. I hope you enjoy it.

So what, only the first some odd people should be allowed to express their thanks for somebody giving them something for free because apparently gratitude and good manners get redundant?
Comment has been collapsed.
The best I could really do would be some quasi-creative comment on you calling yourself a good pony, if I were to enter your giveaway and give thanks. Failing that, I'd have to perform a very deep and thorough background check, followed by "Thank you, [name] of [state] at [address!] I also enjoy [all your hobbies], [some porn from your history], and [sexual position involving your favorite food]. I will call you at [phone number] and tell your [mother/roommate/pet] all about your generosity for [game title] being given away."
But seriously, you can only say thanks so many different ways. Lighten up! People are thanking you!

You know I never used those...Kinda always struck me as odd, stuff like straw berries, chocolate, whip cream, etc do the trick just fine. Also find it really really weird when there is a girl with food on her at a party...like what if I go to grab a piece of sushi and I get a handful of boob by mistake? Do I apologize or just walk away like its a normal occurrence?
Comment has been collapsed.
I ate the other food, found it a bit odd to eat off a girl anyways...you know? lol
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah I mean maybe if I knew the girl personally I would feel better about the whole sanitary thing, wonder how the whole girl sushi table came to be anyways...Also wonder how much that pays...LMAO.

Might be hard to stay still that long but yeah I suppose its a living.

Lmao, but chocolate is delicious :-P.
I would listen to that band...

I Hate it. I've always at least disliked it, but my dislike has festered over the previous months into total disgust.
ake, for example, my Indie Gala giveaway. I will admit, it was nice seeing the first four or so posts having people thank me for my generosity. But. I got bored a few days ago and decided to sift through the comments to see if there was any . With perhaps two exceptions, there wasn't a single comment that wasn't a copypasted "Thanks" on my entire giveaway. In five pages of comments.
My frothing rage has gotten bad enough that I don't even like the new policy against . Not because i disagree with any of the reasons behind implementing it; but because it's killed off the only kind of comment that wasn't a "Thanks" that I ever saw on any giveaways ever.
(This is a (Very easy) puzzle giveaway for an additional copy of the above-linked bundle. The previous statement does not make anything in this post any less true, at least from my point of view. Opinions gonna opine.)
