As long as he doesn't falsely mark it as not received you have no problems. It won't count for or against your count. Also, are you sure he's received it yet? (You can check via Steam somehow to do with gift management, I don't really care to look up how.) Because he might not have marked as received yet because he hasn't actually received it yet. Lastly, if he has, you can try contacting him via Steam and politely asking him to mark it as received. It might be he hasn't won anything before and doesn't know the standard procedure for such.

I'm pretty sure it's only a problem if they mark it "not received".
