I will never get an annual sub regardless of the credit because it's just not enough of a discount to worry about.I rarely buy from the store and other sites I can use to save just as much without any long-term investment just to save 1.00 a month.
I will stick with a month to month, I have more control that way as I can decide when to spend the 12.00 vs shelling out 132 when I could use that money for other things as I rarely get back to back months as is.Though I get what you mean, I'm not against the annual thing just not enough to get me to bite.

I tried, but instead of getting funds added I was 'forced' into a refund. :D
(I bought as gift because it showed the promo as valid in the gift menu)

For me, I went to this page

And at the bottom it showed a picture of each plan, and it said "your current plan" above the 12-month option, and "$20 credit" below that. I selected "change plan" and just followed the prompts. Once I completed the payment, it changed my expiration date from August 2018 to August 2019 and the $20 was showing in my Humble wallet.

Well, all they do is trying to cater to new users. If you try to cancel your sub, you usually get the message asking you to keep the sub, but they will give a discount for it. And 0 perks for those who already subbed before. Only those who do it now.
