Well,well, Steam works in mysterious ways just checked and I have Oblivion® Game of the Year Edition and Oblivion® Game of the Year Edition Deluxe in my account. I remember buying only Oblivion® Game of the Year Edition and after realizing to my dismay DLCs missing to torrent the not included minor ones. Seems as a compensation for my troubles I got the Deluxe version granted later aswell.

Are you sure? For me Steam always showed mixed signals about owning the Deluxe Edition or not.
In the Summer Bundle and Oblivion GOTY Deluxe sub page it's shown as it's in my library but on the app page I could still buy it and there is no indication that I own it. Also, outside of the Summer bundle it shows I'm missing it from that bundle. Checking the tab page of the game in my library also doesn't show any Deluxe DLC only the GOTY one. (I assume there would be a DLC for it too?)

In a way it happened already with paid mods. A few years ago their Creation Club wouldn't have had a chance. Seems to normalize new ways to generate revenue is unproblematic as people have short memories and new generations are ignorant how things were in the past.

And, does the Special Edition have the same aesthetic feel as the original or should I hold out for getting the original for the purposes of authenticity and modding?
