some achivmets were published each day, each achivment gave you a random chance to get a drop, a coal, a coupon or even a game. you could use the coal to craft a new "pressent" again, a game or a coupon. some of the achivments were from F2P games, people created a large amount of accounts to farm coal, abusing the $0.01 humble bundle (in that time, pay what you want gave you steam keys).
after said sale, every user with coal entered a GA for the WHOLE steam catalog. a guy with 2 coals won.
