I figured out the runes, found the missing part, and am at the correct cipher. The problem is I have no idea how to use the key in this type of cipher.

Many people have very little free time. And instead of wasting time getting used to it, wasting unnecessary time for controversial “fun,” it’s better to play computer games or go outside and touch the dog or the grass.

Man, i feel silly for not getting this. Seems like you gave up the solution in the hints. but I'm still getting gibberish after decoding it with the key and then again based on zelgh's post. Maybe I suck at reading. (The key isn't secretly potato is it)

heh, i did try putting "potato" as the "missing" flanked on both sides by the rune codes since I was desperate and that key didn't work.
edit: hm, i tried a couple more possible runes but nada. I may be doing something wrong after I get the key? Or maybe that means I have the wrong key still. I also don't know how to use cryptii, i've usually used rumkin

Thanks for letting us know what type of encryption was used. I have been getting frustrated trying to solve a couple other recent puzzles and I don't think I would have solved this one without that info. It feels good to solve it, even if I needed hints :)

It didn't take me that long to decrypt the text and get the 7 digit code, but I still don't know what I am supposed to do with it. I tried everything and nothing works. I was stuck for like one entire hour trying to figure out what to do with it and at some point just gave up. I don't know what to do anymore.

Hello SG folks,
GA level requirements are 0-3
the portal for this small train with 11 carts(12 keys in total) was stolen from the encampment by demons somehow, fortunately the old man who we stayed a while and listened to stories from near the portal area is ok. We gave chase but were only able to obtain an encrypted message and the demons got away, the high priestess drew the runes(and poorly!) that would let us make the key that would let you decrypt the message believing we could figure it out but the musclehead messenger she gave it to tried to sharpen his axe with it and ended up cutting out the middle segment of the drawing and what kind of encryption it was and that segment fell into the campfire.
Figure out what is missing to get the key to decrypt this message!.
