Are the winners selected randomly or the creator of a particular giveaway selects the winner??

Winners are selected at random from the database the moment a giveaway closes. The past history of a member has no affect on their chances of winning, and everyone always has an equal opportunity of being selected.

Which RNG does the site use, or do you rely on mysql RAND() or php rand()?

Now, that's a nice question I've been meaning to ask!

i agree that usage of e.g. http://www.random.org/#tools
would make the site even more 'trustable' than it is now ...
but that's up to authors decision ...

The number of entries and the amount of randomness required on SteamGifts do not delve into the esoteric computational quagmires where the difference between TRNG/PRNG and good/bad RNG would really matter.

True indeed, but some people always like to know how things work on the inside - never hurts (:

First, it checks to see if you are American. Then it checks to see if you have ever won any games. Thirdly, it presumes that you adore Monty Python, and submits a special encoded question-ping to your IPS referencing a random scene from Monty Python (needless to say, if the ISP does not answer with the correct reply, the checking stops and you don't win). Lastly, it checks to see if you have any TF2 hats (which automatically exclude you from ever winning anything). After all that, though, it randomly chooses a winner out of those who passed the initial screening.

It's a magical process that works entirely based off of unicorns.

Are the unicorns at least reusable?

Not at all.

Well, that's sad, but at least cryptologically safe.

the real question is, how many foals do they have a unicorn sire before they are used in the process?
obviously, we can't have just one sired, unless we use only the father, and have a set number of breeding mothers used until they get to old, at which point they are entered into the Process...

Don't worry. Unicorns are highly recyclable

Weird, I always pictured unicorns as slightly larger. Then again, I've never seen one in person.

Just like seals, baby unicorns are prized for their tasty meat and supple skin. We club only the finest baby unicorns to bring you the juiciest and most scrumptious unicorn meat on the market.

Yes the winners are chosen randomly, but... you DO still have to actually give the game to the winner. It's not magically procured from unicorns.

To your email that you wrote when signing up to the site. If not given, then report it one week after the giveaway has ended, and check the box (not recieved).

I think when someone creates a thread in the forum and certain keywords are used they should be shown a "read this, dont ask pointlessly on the forums" sreen.
(which shows the FAQ. we have that for a reason)

Think of it as a virtual lottery.
Completely random. One guy may win 3 games in 50 entries, while another guy may not win anything even after 300 entries.
