Choose Dead Island because killing zombies with friends is always fun. Fallout 3 is a piece of crap (okay, maybe not total crap, I would give it about 5/10 and NV about 7/10). Fallout NV has a better story & design but game mechanics are still plain sh**. Gamebryo is the worst "big" engine I know.

I will HAVE to choose Fallout 3. I just have to. I love the TES games myself, too. And I played Fallout 3 at my friend's place when it first came out, and I just had to buy it. It gave me a lot of fun. The game is very atmospheric, the story is very good, and the main story is not so short, even. And, you should buy the GOTY edition, which is 10€, because you get all the 5 DLCs that came out for it. And for the extra 2.5 or how much, they are really, really worth it. My favourite has to be Point Lookout, because I loved the atmosphere, and you got some cool gadgets at the end to work with in your base game. All of the DLCs are fun, except the first, and the last, being the Operation Anchorage, and the Mothership Zeta. But, both of those DLCs are worth playing, because they do give you some amazing weapons and armor, that you can wear in the "base" game. Now, I saw someone say Fallout New Vegas Ultimate. I have to say, I never enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed Fallout 3. I have some 120 or so hours on it, but it just does not come close to the charm of Fallout 3. Sure, it has achievements and isn't on Windows Live, but in my opinion, Fallout 3 is a lot better. The atmosphere, the story, everything is far better.
As for the Dead Island, despite what everyone says about the game, I liked it, a lot. Even at the release with all the bugs, and what-have-you. I enjoyed it even then, and I still do. I have about 60 hours on it, and I think I could squeeze another 40 or so out of it. I don't have much to say about that game, because, even if it was very fun, it still never impressed me as Fallout 3 did.
If I was in your shoes, I would choose Fallout 3 over both Dead Island, and New Vegas. But at the end, it's all your choice.

It depends of what you want - if you want to kill zombies in beautiful open world, choose Dead Island. If you like postapo atmosphere and stuff like this - choose Fallout 3.
It's kinda hard to me to tell you which is better, as I've never played ANY Fallout game, though I've heard that Fallout 3 is not that good, meanwhile DI with friends (and even without) can be fun.

The only people I've ever seen complain about Fallout 3 are people who've played the first two. So, if you haven't played the first two, you're sure to love Fallout 3.
In all seriousness though. I played and loved Fallout 1 and 2. Then I played and loved Fallout 3. That, for some reason, makes me odd.

If you want a great singleplayer experience, go with Fallout 3 while Dead Island is best with multiplayer :D

To many this may sound like a silly question as most of you will instantly say Fallout 3 but I just don't see the appeal? I love TES games and everyone says it's like them but I'm just not sure? As for Dead Island it looks really fun (now all the bugs are fixed) but just a tad repetitive...
Help please?
:')
Edit: Its between Fallout 3 and Dead Island, not New Vegas and Dead Island, thanks :)
