Many of you probably heard of MercurySteam, a Spanish developer studio behind the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow trilogy.
Since their Castlevania run came to an end in 2014, MercurySteam has been in the center of speculations regarding a possible Contra Reboot. But since then there was silence and no further update about the project.

A couple days ago however, the studio's website was updated, teasing a new project.
What do you think?

  • Do you want to see a Contra reboot?
  • And if yes, do you think MercurySteam is the right team for the job?
  • How do you imagine a reboot? Keep it 2D or maybe a TPS or FPS interpretation?

Would you like a Contra reboot?

Yes, and I think MercurySteam is the right studio to pull this off
Yes, but I would prefer a different developer for it
No. You can't improve perfection. Contra is fine as it is.

Hard Corps on PSN was good. I need other Contra games though. Used to have 4 on DS but no longer.

What I think is Konami should put: http://www.amazon.com/Konami-Collectors-Series-Castlevania-Contra-PC/dp/B00006969T up on Steam (or GOG) as it aleady exists and would take literaelly 0 effort other than uploading it to the publisher portal on Steam. It works on 7x-64, and likely newer as well.

I think I am one of the few who preferred the European version ("Probotector").
Maybe because you could play as a big robot. I mean, you get to be a robot! And big!

Anyway, yeah I would probably play a modern version, unless it's an FPS. Contra has to be a platformer.

As long as they don't go full genre shift, this could work.
But Contra always was a form of run & gun, and helped define that genre.

Well their Castlevania games were genre shifted, and worked pretty well. It did however split the fanbase, since many players didn't like the departure from the oldschool platforming to hack-n-slash.

Ironicly Castlevania: Mirror of Fate, which was the closest to the old Castlevania games, was Mercury's weakest entry from their trilogy.

I'm pretty positive about their Contra attempt, though. Their art design is arguably phenomenal and they have great eye for details.

We'll see. Handing over the series to a 3rd-party developer has given both some of the the best (Contra 4 & Hard Corps Uprising) and some of the worst (C: The Contra Adventure) parts of the series.
