+1, your 6850 is probably still quite beasty, enough to wait for the next series... In the mean time you could consider upgrading your Phenom processor to something like 965 Black Edition, instead of an i5, saves you from having to buy a new motherboard. Although i5 may be 30-40% better than the 965, while 965 is almost half the price and with proper cooling can be overclocked nicely.

Get an EVGA GTX 670, i have their 660 FTW Ti card and i tell you, i am really impressed with the results. Oh and also, it comes with free Assassin's creed 3.

GTX670 hands down.
Never buy AMD. It's pure crap.

My current setup can barely run any games on medium to high so this will be a huge upgrade for me. I can't seem to decide on these two cards. 7970 is appealing because it comes with Bioshock Infiniite but other than that, I don't know.
I also plan to get an i5 3570k and a new motherboard.
I currently have a radeon 6850 and phenom ii x4 925 (2.8 GHz).
edit: BTW, I just bought a 27" monitor and someone below said the 7970 is choppy so that's going to be pretty noticeable on a large screen. Is that really true? Can you provide some proof?
