So I just finished watching how I met your mother. I know, I am behind! But it was soooo good and it is probably one of my favorite if not my favorite series. So naturally when it ended, I cried for approximately 12 hours and cry everytime I think of the ending (I am slowly coming along to it though) As I don't typically watch tv, watching a show as great as this and it ending killed me. So, I have a question, can you recommend me a similar show? When you recommend me a show, keep in mind I already watched friends (meh) and my favorite part of How I met your Mother was how it was really funny but it got serious and sad on many occassions, so it felt real. Also, if this show is on netflix, that would be great.

I don't know if this contain's spoilers as I stopped reading after the first couple sentences. Please, if it does, add a spoiler tag since there are some of us that will eventually watch it :(

One day. I'll get around to watching this show.

And no idea what to suggest you watch, aside from maybe My Name Is Earl? I don't watch much TV lately

Heyy thanks! I'll give it a shot. Hope you get some awesome suggestions in your thread. If you like funny with a mix of serious I can recommend "Gilmore Girls." I love Gilmore Girls. It's awesome. Hilarious and serious.

Just stop whatever you are doing and look back at your life. Watch as all those years have passed by where you were once full of hopes and dreams and ambitions. Watch them slowly fade into darkness until they slowly rot away, leaving nothing but a stinging pain in your sould and the feeling that there should be more, but never will.

But maybe that's just me.

Watch Angel Beats.

I didn't cry when watching Angel Beats, didn't like any characters.

However, I cried like a little girl when watching Azumanga Daioh and Lucky Star.

(I also cried with Cowboy Bebop and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

I honestly never watch anime, nor do I really enjoy it. A friend bugged me to watch Angel Beats though and one day I gave in and then just couldn't stop afterwards. I really liked the story of it. I pretty much watched it in a day. If there's more like that I'd be glad to hear any suggestions

Hmmm, well, to be honest, I haven't seen anything like it. Heard Clannad is a tear jerker as well.

Although I didn't enjoy Angel Beats at all, I must admit I think it is pretty good. Its setting was great, its plot was great too, I just think most of its characters should have been more developed for me to actually cry at the end of it.

Gundam X? All I really know is stuff with giant robots and shoulder cannons.

Oh, Gundam X.

Great show, too bad it isn't as tragic as I expected it to be.

Eh, it's a good change of pace from, "main character's parents get killed off just before a cease fire," and it's other hilariously tragic friends. Besides, it's the happiest ending a Gundam series featuring the giant robots will ever get.

Agreed.

Wait, isn't G Gundam's ending even happier?

Eh, maybe. I think some villains still died or something though, and the Frost Brothers survived the whole way through X together.

The IT Crowd is pretty damn funny, but I don't think it ever got very serious. The Boondocks is a show with a lot of social commentary, but it's also funny as hell (though I don't think it really fits what you're looking for). You might like Coupling, which is a British show kinda like friends and HIMYM.

Hope you find something you like!

Scrubs? I haven't watched much of it, but it is supposed to be funny and might be sad if people die in the hospital?

It's awesome and it's sad, but not because of that.

I would recommend a very specific episode from Futurama: Jurassic Bark (Season 5, episode 2). The ending of that particular episode was the closest thing a TV-show has got me to tear.

Watch the Community. Then rewatch last seasons of HIMYM and cringe.
