Ermahgerd, why forever alone? Grab L4D2 and play it with me.
But to actually answer your questions, they have their moronic moments. There are a few times where I've been pinned to the ground and they've taken 10-15 seconds to get to me, while I'm screaming at the screen going "COME ON, GET ME ALREADY!"
So that just enforces my first point, though.

Sometimes they let you die under a Hunter when you're 5m away from them, or just run out into the open as a Boomer.
Sometimes they headshot you with their pistol, 200m away, through heavy foliage, while you're soaring through the air (when you're a hunter in versus).
So... yeah. They're... unpredictable.

I was hooked at 'moronic moments' - I need to be part of this hilarity. Now just to wait the six weeks it'll take to download on this damn connection...sigh I miss my old broadband. Could start a download first thing and have it ready after breakfast.

L4D2 is the more "practical" because it has the l4d original maps in it, but i like l4d1 more because it has more basic weapons and none of the new special infected... i just enjoy it more, but if its all about bargain, than yeah id get l4d2

Definitely L4D2. Aside from all of the new weapons, zombie types, and other improvements over L4D1, all of the campaigns were ported over as well, plus there are many downloadable add-on campaigns to play as well. L4D2 still has an active community & games running, L4D1 multiplayer is mostly dead (errr undead?). There's a small minority of people who will argue that L4D1 had a little bit of a darker atmosphere, which I don't necessarily disagree with, but these people also tend to be stuck in the past and L4D2 just has so many improvements overall that in my opinion it doesn't really make sense to buy L4D1. Having played both extensively, including many add-on campaigns, I can honestly say that L4D2 is hand-down the better game.
