I'm starting to think a quota system needs to be instituted to put a limit on how many times the same game can be up for giveaway within a certain period, e.g. there can only ever be 15 copies of The Ship up within a 24 hour period. In this scenario the time period would start once the 15th copy of a game was posted and reset after the last copy was gifted - so no, it would not be a rolling 24 hours and it wouldn't stop someone from gifting, but perhaps make them consider a different game to gift instead.

The amount and time period are just examples...

^This.

I can't see how limiting the charity of the people can actually improve the page quality. I sometimes have the impression that you want Borderlands 2 and Skyrims given 24/7.

EDIT: Those gifts are given by people with (or at least I like to think so) their best will, so seriously I don't see anyimprovement that could be made by that rule.

Nice job saying no without giving a reason. Personally I think it'd be a good thing to not have to deal with the massive amount of spam going on with DOTA 2 and The Ship.

But, what if you were one of those people who actually want DOTA or The Ship, and because of some arbitrary restriction, you can only see x number of giveaways at a time.

Also, it would just prolong the 'problem,' if it is one. Now, instead of seeing a ton of DOTA for a few days, every day for the foreseeable future, the list will be clogged with DOTA.

If someone wants it, they will still have the same amount of chances at getting it. And the list is already clogged with DOTA. I can't go a single page without seeing it. Some pages are NOTHING BUT DOTA 2, save 2 or 3 games.

I don't think you quite understand the concept. See, if there are lot of giveaways for the Ship and you enter all of them, you have more of a chance than if there were handfuls of them and you entered all of those. If there's some weird gate to the amount of games that could be given away, that automatically decreases your chances. What if they all get posted at 3 AM your time? And are all over before you even wake up? Outta luck there, better wait for the next gate period. Which also will be at a time unreasonable to you.

Basically go find a filter (There's one in the FAQ!) and don't whine about people giving away things for free.

I guess you do have a point there. The last thing about whining was unnecessary though. Thanks to the people before you for keeping things mature though.

They'll have the same chances, but it will take them multiple times longer than if they could enter any giveaway at once.

And if it's really so detrimental to you, you can get the browser add on and filter out the DOTA giveaways, you know.

Serious question: I see Half-Minute Hero is at the top of your wishlist. Would you feel the same way if, instead of Dota 2, it was Half-Minute Hero (or some other game you really wanted) that was showing up in huge numbers?

I'd still get annoyed at the shear amount.

There's a Visine for that. Wait no, it's a browser extension/script/add-on.

You mean you'd get annoyed at the shear amount of it AFTER you won it, because until then its just better odds of you getting it

Well, that'll just cut down the chances for people who want The Ship or DOTA, wouldn't it?

"Wtf, generous people are giving away free games but they're not the games I want! Something must be done to punish these people!"

People really need to stop and think before making threads like this.
"Oh no, the amount of The Ship giveaways is annoying to me because I own The Ship already! What? No, forget about the thousands of people still entering the giveaways that clearly want the game, I'm inconvenienced, so you need to change the rules!"

It's not as if there's a tool easily found from the FAQ thread that allows you to automatically block the games you own or don't care about from appearing when you view the site.

Problem is, their entire thought process is centered around themselves, as if the rest of the world doesnt even exist.

This. There was a guy yesterday complaining about all The Ship giveaways even though he'd won it a while back himself and promptly created a giveaway for the gift copy he received - "Giveaways should only exist while I want the game!" (Not an actual quote.)

It would be great if we could hide certain games from the list.

lol it isn't even about the games I want, but as they say - by assuming you make an ass of not only others but yourself too. This was more about seeing a better variety, not because I felt inconvenienced, which some people that can't read automatically ASSumed was the issue behind the idea. Problem is, their entire thought process is centered around their opinions, as if other opinions don't even exist.

I don't believe you have the right to complain about a lack of variety in regards to something you're getting for free. You are not a paying customer.

It's only natural for there to be an influx of certain games depending on external factors such as sales or promotions. The Amazon bundle flooded the site with the same bunch of games. Variety took a hit, but so what? You're not entitled to a variety. People went ahead and bought something that had great value for money and gave it away, for which we should all be happy. There's no reason to attempt to limit giveaway creators in such a manner.
