So, I found this recent giveaway over here:
https://gleam.io/uoQp1/random-heaven-island-life-or-deadbreed-undead-pack-round-12
It says that you either get Random: Heaven Island Life or Deadbreed Undead Pack.
I've got my key now; but how do I find out what I got without using it up?

I'm pretty sure you don't... Why not just use it?

One way of doing it is having someone that has both those games try and claim the key. It will tell them they already own the game and prompt them to install that game. But apart from that, I don't believe there is any way?

Someone that owns both could test it for you, but you would have to trust them.

ty, that advice was actually not bad at all :) but how would he know what for the key was if it'd just say "doubled code" or something? or would it say what it is for precisely?

If you already own a game and try to redeem a valid key of that game the system will tell you that you already have that game and tell you the game that you're trying to redeem. That's it if I'm not wrong.

As Shirl mentioned above... it would tell you that you already own the game you are trying to add. If you click "next" at the bottom, it will take you to the next screen, which would be installing whichever game it is. This is where you will see the name.

No harm in trying, right? You can't give away either of them, and if you already own one of them you'll just get an error message without the key getting used.

Just remember that you can't make GAs for game that were given out for free in large numbers.

Try it. There's no use for that key on steamgifts (i'm not saying you want to make a giveaway for it) and you probably won't get anything for it on a trade.
And as far as I know, there's no other way to know what the key is for.
