Fullmetal Alchemist(both- 2003 series and brotherhood), Death Note, Elfen Lied, Requiem for the Phantom are my favourites.
Even if Elfen Lied Anime is not even near of the manga, all the mangas that I read are better than the animes. In exception for Fullmetal Alchemist manga and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.
Gintama is also awesome xD.
For Mangas, I would recommend Berserk xD, the anime adaptation is not bad, it follows the manga, but they just show The Golden Age Arc in the anime. I'm waiting for the new Berserk films
I watched Monster as well, but never finished.
I have the first Monster volume, but can't buy after the second one, they are expensive has hell

I'm not thinking on watching or reading fruits basket, at least for now xD. It doesn't make my genre priority.
But it is good to see a manga which is worst than the anime xD... The ones that I read were always better and had more details

One Piece is a fantastic anime if you sit through 500+ episodes (and still going)

Once again, everyone recommends the goriest series they know... you can't beat Gantz at that.
Anyway, if you're more into stories I guess GTO is a good choice (it's also a good source of laughs) and if you don't mind violence and mild sex go for Young GTO first (Shonan Junai Gumi). Since the animation is pretty crappy I'd recommend getting the manga instead. This one is even funnier; I've got the whole manga series and I always end up getting an uncontrollable laughter at every page (events may have been exaggerated).
There's also the movie Akira, a masterpiece of animation (animation looks 2010 when it came out in ~1977).
Finally, there's also an anime about a guy who travels Japan to collect ghost stories and ends up meeting the three same people every time; as it turns out the three people always revive the fairytale themselves. It's pretty theatrical (environments are barren; for example you only have the character standing all surrounded by white and lines on the ground to make a path of white stones. Hard to describe)
-- But, there's also a fair share of horror. The stories first, of course, and it does get graphics sometimes.
Unfortunately I forgot the name. If anybody has it, I'm definitely interested.

Great Teacher Onizuka is amazing I completely back this suggestion.

Gantz o/ not sure if i'm going to buy the manga collection or not xD... But the anime is pretty gorie and awesome, even if the manga has more details I didn't started the manga yet

I'm thinking of watching the live action Gantz movie tonight to see how it stacks up.

I've already watched, it is good. But doesn't follow everything has the anime(dind't read the manga), the characters are less perv and all. It continues to be good, but not awesome.
it has lots of differences from the anime

I'm reading the Gantz manga now, waiting for the next release. It goes from "ok what's going on" to "what the f-ck" to "what the f-ck on a f-cksandwich with a side of holysh-t". It's really good, I just did not expect the plot to end up going in the direction it did. I'd recommend it.

I always like a good romance anime. Harem Animes are alright too but there's gotta be some actual tension and relationships.
I'd list them all but there's so many.

Try School Days, you will end to hate all the characters in there xD

I hated all but kotonoha lol, everyone was just such a whore, it seems kotonoha had the only sense out of them all, until...you know...

Eureka Seven - Contains both mecha on surfboards and one of the best love stories ever.
Rocket Girls - Light comedy...very hard sci-fi. If there's another series that cracks a joke about reverse Polish notation, I've not heard of it.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time - a movie about time, opportunity, and life lessons.
The Half-Broken Music Box (Kowarekake no Orgel) - a very touching story about a former musician who finds a cute little robot in a junkpile. (1 episode OVA)
The iDOLM@STER - A story featuring the character development of thirteen characters in the pop idol industry.

Naoki Urasawa's Monster?! I love that series! I don't know anyone else that has seen it, which is a shame for such a great series. I also enjoyed Code Geass. (and I still really need to finish Death Note sometime...)
Oh, right, recommendations. I was told that Legend of the Galactic Heroes was a fantastic series (and debatably one of the best). The only viable way to get it is by torrenting though.

Welcome to the community. Now about the anime ill recommend some of my favorites; Ergo proxy, Fairy Tail, Air Gear, Mirrai Nikki, School Days, Rideback, Tiger & Bunny, Bakuman sheesh i can go on, but ima stop there for those are the ones that come at the top of my head at the moment. There are alot of great ones with similar plots to death note and code geas.

Bakuman, Usagi Drop, Stein's Gate Bakuman 2, Another(Finished)
Sket Dance(Ongoing)
These are some anime which i can think off the top of my head which i recommend. I prefer the slice of life genre and mystery anime in general so my opinion may be biased

Firstly, hey everyone :) I'm kinda new here, and I wonder if there are some fans of anime. I'm sure there are! :D Maybe one of you can recommend me some good series? Recently I watch Monster, which almost automaticly went on 2 place on my private ranking. I love Code Geass and Death Note too. So? Any reccomandation for me? Or maybe discussion about some series? ;)
