Tell me what your favorite roguelikes are! Mine are:

  1. Dungeons of Dredmore
  2. DoomRL Link: http://doom.chaosforge.org/
  3. Transcendence Link: http://neurohack.com/transcendence/index.html

Edit: As a special mention, I also quite enjoyed Rogue for iOS. If anyone has an iPhone, I definitely recommend that game to you. It's free!

Very much so, many hours of childhood were lost playing both parts. Probably my first real gaming experience.

  1. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup
  2. Dungeons of Dredmor - for humor and variety of skills
  3. IVAN - for being insane
  4. Steamband, some other angband variants [mostly played old ToME while it was still an angband variant]
  5. DoomRL
  6. ADOM - though now I consider it too repetitive and linear - not enough artifacts, tedious (pre-\post-)crowning, but still awesome

And as an honorable mention: Spelunky and The Binding of Isaac

As Stonesoup has already been mentioned I'll have to go with Dwarf Fortress although it's long since elevated past the point of "Roguelike".

Dwarf Fortress has a real steep learning curve for me. I feel very dumb when I play it. I want to get into the game, but aghhhhh it's just too frustrating.

I think the only Roguelike I've played was Hack Slash Loot, I liked that one.

Still Angband and some good variants -- I played it for several years straight I think. I like Nethack very much, but Angband fits me better in some ways. Crawl is very good, too. Ah hell, I really love quite many of them, but Angband caught me good when I was a kid.

Dungeons of Dredmor, Binding of Issac, and Spelunky, though the last two are really rougelike-likes. Speaking of like-likes, I wouldn't mind a randomly generated Legend of Zelda game. Hold on while I go beat Nintendo over the head with that.
