Progress report and bump. 3/5 puzzles are 100% complete. One more will be ready today and I think I can finish everything by tomorrow.

I'll be honest, I had a first look at zelghadis logical puzzle, and while logical puzzles are usually my favorite (they are my strongest suite usually), I did think that it was such a chore, that I stopped looking at this thread all-together, dropped completely the idea of even looking at them... Maybe I'm just bored I don't know... If all puzzles require such commitment however, I certainly don't have the time to look at any... Is there a deadline for all of these?

Maybe I'll look at it again in the weekend then. It's true that I some times may get the wrong idea and have almost zero patience during the weekdays, due to overwork...

if you approach my puzzle logically it can be done quite fast (1st solver came to it from SG chat where I promoted it and solved it in like 15-20min since he started max I believe ;p), but yeah you got to get patientlly to it and take your time not rushing things that's all - because when people rush things then it will take much longer - you rush, you make a mistake, one mistake leads to another, you don't take your time to reread the rules but you depend on what you remember reading and then you forget about important detail or you remember it wrong alltogether :> basically every comment from someone struggling or who was struggling I get can be summarized by "I forgot about rule #X", "I missed the rule #X", "I've done rule #X wrong but never bothered to try or check again" "I picked first number/character that came to my mind that fits rule #X and then didn't bother checking if something else fits as well further on" etc ;p In this kind of puzzle the slower and more patient you go the faster you will solve it in the end :>

Like I said many times - most people confuse puzzles with trivia or quizes ;p Most of what we get on SG are quizes and trivia. Unlike these, I do puzzles :>
yeah, yeah - I know, it's easier to cal them all just by one name because it's more noticeable this way ;p My guide is also called guide to puzzling not to puzzles, quizes and trivias ;p

I won't since some people used restrictions which means I won't be able to solve all the puzzles = joing big finale ;p
And as much as I love puzzles (not to confuse with trivias ;p) nowadays I have much less time compared to when I joined SG and if I have to choose between puzzling and beating my backlog I chose the later one ;p When I got into puzzles I was in last years of Uni, unemployed, very few courses - had a lot of free time, so I used it on both making and solving puzzles ;) When I knew I will have to quit serious puzzling soon I just left my legacy in form of my guide :>

You mean puzzles locked behind SGtool-checks? I think Jeff will make sure there's a link prior to the checks if so, it's not supposed to be locked away by anything other than puzzles/trivias. That includes making sure you can get past the puzzles, even if you're on a blacklist from someone.

I mean a nonITH puzzle that at the end of it gives you the link to another SGT check of a next part without link to next puzzle part (which is in GA I guess) ;) Already informed jeff about it, but well not sure anything can be done now when puzzle is finished;p
Anyway - I already win a lot - don't need a puzzles to boost my chances, I simply like solving some of them ;p Even if I had access I prolly woulddn't bother with hours of searchong for quiz answers from fields I know nothing about in other parts ;p Like I said - nowadays I don't have as much free time as I used to ;p

He can always release the link to the puzzle code GA if the creator can't solve it any other way. It's after all his GAs. :)
Yeah, some of these quizzies are way too hard for people that aren't interested in those fields, and if puzzle solvers don't start doing better hints to actually help people that are willing to work through them, I don't think we'll have many, if any, people at the end. I'm trying my hardest to lure out some help for some of the trickier puzzles I encounter. And if anyone has problems with mine, I will keep giving more and more hints until they are able to get through it. I'm not going to be a stopping block for reaching the goal.
Oh, and I barely enter any of the games for puzzles I've solved, I'm doing this because I like it. :)

yeah I totally understand ;) I used to do puzzles of puzzlers I knew I enjoyed before even if I knew I had the game ;) But it was when I had almost only free time ;p nowadays with limited free time and even cutting my game-time seriously (even if currently unemployed - jobhunting, rising my skills, learning new stuff, going to interviews - takes a lot of time) I don't do too many puzzles anymore, even if I do want the game ;p

I totally agree on this one... we need to have everyone on board on this event. IT's an educational thing... and we want to have fun, promote camaraderie... interaction with each other on our puzzles to have as many as possible reach the goal... of conquering the complete event.
I think I also have an idea for those puzzles that people can't get-- to have a workaround. (PLUS, 30 puzzles is monstrous!! and some puzzles are made of multiple puzzles.) I'm thinking of allowing a certain amount of freebies... lets say 5 freebies for everyone. They can ask me directly on STEAM for their 5 freebies where I will give them the direct link to the ending puzzle passcode hint (my GA) for 5 puzzles. Thus they really only have to solve 25 to beat the event. They will want to wait till they try them all and be sure what 5 maybe they either aren't interested in solving or just can't get.
What do you think of this idea?

The challenge is they may not see a low number of solvers. Across 30 puzzles, if each has 50 solvers, there's no guarantee that means the same 50 solvers have completed all 30 puzzles and are heading for gold and platinum (e.g. only 5 of those 50 may have actually solved all 30 puzzles). This is probably the important thing to remember - just because someone has solved your puzzle, it doesn't mean they're complete - solving one puzzle only adds 3% towards completion of the event (once you take into account some of the small category achievements Jeff has put in).

I think rather than freebies, having some of the puzzle masters provide a little more guidance and hints would be good. If we think 30 puzzles over 30 days (equals one per day on average according to my calculator), some of which have taken me several hours to complete because of vague leads (i.e. hard to Google) and/or undefined formatting, it means the majority of people aren't going to have the time (or energy) to complete the event. IMO, I think the puzzle creators should be aiming for an average user to be able to complete their puzzle within 60 minutes max - this still means an hour each night for 30 nights. My trusty calculator tells me this is still up to 30 hours in total to solve the event, so it's not a stroll in the park, but the dedicated solvers will still be able to get through without locking themselves away for the month of March.
Now for my disclaimer - I state this as someone who didn't create a puzzle for this event. I acknowledge the challenge in trying the gauge the difficulty of a puzzle you're creating for an average user. I also truly appreciate the time and effort that the people have put into making this event.

Progress report and bump. 4/5 puzzles are 100% complete and the final puzzle is 60% done. Tomorrow it is.

It's ready. Just doing some final testing and double checking to see if my answers are correct. Should be up in about an hour or less, if jeff is online. :)

25 Platinum and 23 Gold Winners!!!
Click HERE to see the event champions!
This event is ended. If you want to provide solutions to your puzzle then post them in main thread.
Note to puzzle designers: Our goal is to get everyone through the event and try to avoid frustration. We want to see a lot of platinum and GOLD winners. Thus, have fun dropping clever hints in your GA thread and helping users that are stuck. We are all in a learning process-- we want our puzzles to be FUN, EDUCATIONAL, ENJOYABLE and promote COMRADESHIP.
com·rade·ship
ˈkämˌradˌSHip,ˈkämrədˌSHip
noun
the company and friendship of others with common aims.
"his greatest joy came from comradeship with others in the team"
Note: To solve the passcode puzzles use a copy of THIS PERIODIC TABLE. When it says Number focus on atomic numbers of elements. When it says Weight focus on atomic weight which is usually three digits after the decimal. If it says two elements added together to get a new element then add the two elements atomic numbers and get a new number--then find what is the element that has the added result. You will also need to goggle for common and scientific names of plants and animals. The first part of the passcode hint shows the format and special characters to use. (no passcodes have spaces)
Note: If you can't access the opening GA to the puzzle as you are BL then go to the ITH directly-- you will still get rewards for some GAs under each puzzle solved. (More explanation HERE if you can't see GA with puzzle because of BL.)
GO FOR THE GOLD!! (All puzzles in full event solved)
GO FOR THE PLATINUM!! (excludes Special Interest category)
