So, my friend has an AMD A10 7870k paired with a GTX 1050ti, and unless I'm mistaken, 8gb of RAM DDR3. Before buying the gpu, of course, he searched youtube for benchmarks and stuff. His little brother plays games like Fortnite, so that's what he used as a reference. So yeah, he thought that it would be okay and went for it, but after noticing a lot of frame drops, even running the game at 1366x768 (on high-max settings), he asked me and another friend for help. We asked him the usual stuff, like, is your pc physically clean of dust? Do you have the latest drivers installed? etc. Our mutual friend told him to show us the cpu and gpu usage, and he sent us this photo (he doesn't send captures, I don't know why :p)

Anyways, I thought "Mmh, that looks weird, almost like a bottleneck issue..."
So yeah, before asking you guys what you think, I asked him to sent me photos of his dxdiag screen.

And that's it. I just find it weird that his CPU remains at a normal temperature (between 40°C and 60°C), and is almost all the time at 100% usage, while the gpu is barely being stressed. So, what do you guys think? Perhaps it's something exclusive to this game? I could ask him to send me photos or screenshots of the data while playing other games.

Edit: Sorry for the spanish. His english isn't that good, and most people here use windows in spanish anyways, but the main things are still there.

Yea that's a really weak CPU. Even a 2200g would be quite a step up.

Mh, that's a bit sad :p He's already considering the upgrading the whole thing, but he'll surely need to buy a new mobo and ram sticks for a newer cpu, so his current pc is probably staying the way it is now.

Before that, you'd better write the game and benchmarking software you used to confirm the "FPS value".

  1. Possibility of using on-board graphics from the APU / motherboard side socket
(You can disable graphics in BIOS / UEFI)
  2. The possibility that the graphic board is a fake
    (Check with GPU - Z)
  3. Cables for additional power supply are not connected
    (Connection)
  4. Driver setting is bad
    (Reinstall clean installation)
  5. Bad games and benchmark software
    (Try another benchmark)

Now? I do not know, because I do not know the premise.┐(´θ`)┌ ?

Oh, right. As I said, it was Fortnite, but the benchmarking software is MSI Afterburner if I'm not mistaken. Also, my other friend made sure that the drivers were installed correctly, so I would discard that one... But thanks for the help, I'll definitely consider the other ones.

Point 2 - Chinese manufactures often reuse gpu chipset from broken GPUs to make "their own" original GPU but with cheaper parts. I've seen GTX 1080Ti with some cheap no-brand memory, fake cooling system (!!!) - only 1 fan is really connected and cooling chamber with heater, that covers only 1/5 of the card, isn't even connected to the board, and the board itself is a fake one without any producer/manufacture info.

Such card is seen as the legit one in the GPU-Z.

Yeah. [Fake + model number] Code name is displayed as GPU. <In case of GPU-Z

Linus did similar test - he bought few cards from Aliexpress and his GPU-Z showed nothing.

Oh, I got the discrepancy.
Even with GPU - Z, it is a TechPowerUP version.
Sorry if it was confusing.(´・Θ・`)ゞ

I just asked my friend and he told me that it was manufactured by Gigabyte... Damn, do you think that they would be capable of doing that? I mean, I heard of those chinese manufacturers but I never heard of a "renowned" manufacturer like MSI, Zotac, or EVGA doing things like that.

Well, he may check GPU board to see the serial number.

Additional notes
There is an upper limit of the refresh rate on the monitor used for personal computers, and some games and benchmark software side only operate to the upper limit of the refresh rate.
"MSI afterburner" has an overclocking function, it seems to be relatively standard as monitoring software.
(It seems to work even if you use graphics board of any manufacturer)
Perhaps you indicated "FPS value etc." on Farcry's play screen? I think that.

In that case, it depends largely on the setting of the game side.
It is better to examine the setting information of the game side.

It looks like a CPU bottleneck to me. In my experience it's best to turn up the graphics settings/resolution until you're using around 90% of your GPU (or you hit max settings) and enjoy the game the best you can.

To free up some CPU just disable or lower the settings on CPU intensive graphic options like shadows, level of detail, model complexity, view distance, post procesing etc.

Did he have v-sync off in those benches?
Edit: At the end of the day it doesn't matter if your CPU or GPU is limiting, it's wether gameplay is fluid without massive framedrops or lags.

I'm pretty sure he always has V-sync off. And believe me, I know. I played AC2 in its entirety at 15fps back in the day, and I still found it enjoyable :p
