Trading will be the cheapest option, but could be very time consuming depending what you want. Buying off the market is very quick, but can be costly. Totally depends on how you want to go about it. Also +1 on Steamcardexchange. I use them to price all my cards for trades.

I agree with trading. but sadly, I aint good at trading things. Its hard to say "NO! ITS LOWBALL! I want more!" for me. normally I just accept it with their offers even tho its lower than average price. thats why I buy things on steam market. thanks for comment :)

if their offers are lower than average, do a counter offer and state your reason why. More often than not, the reasonable people will agree. The worst thing that could happen is you not getting a deal then and there.

Nobody making them seems to understand what the function of them is supposed to be, or how they will look when used.
So most of them look bad at the smaller size, or you'd just never use them.
Monukai mentioned some good ones, inparticular I like the facepalm emoticon from the Holiday Sale 2013 set.
